Not voting flame war fueling up....

IE and Firefox both have strengths and weakness.

Boils down to this, Try IE for a week, Try Firefox for a week, Try Oprea for a week. Use what you like best for *your* browsing habbits. For me it's Firefox but still use IE for some things.

IE and Firefox are both awful. IE has a solid interface but a crappy engine. Firefox has a solid engine but a crappy interface.

Thank God for KDE and Konqueror.

One thing is for sure, you don't have to worry about spyware and viruses with Konquerer or even with KDE.

IE isn't bad by itself, it's the users lack of securing it, that make it bad. It could be setup better by default too.

I use Opera mainly, but for those rare times I need the IE engine, I use Slimbrowser.

My main gripe with IE at the moment is its lack of support for PNG, and for standards.

Only out of pure arrogance could Microsoft have neglected to implement full PNG support into IE. The worst part is, they did, but IE will only display them properly if you use some ugly-ass, disgraceful, POS proprietary filter tag.

I don't think IE is a bad browser, it just doesn't quite meet up to other browsers we have today. Firefox isn't much either, but with extensions can become a very powerful browser. And Opera itself is already a feature-filled browser.

Web Standards: (Don't b**ch, just my opinion) I think considering most of the websites on the internet are designed for IE, that it should just become the standard. I don't think that all these sites should have to recode their html, just because a small part of the population thinks the web should follow W3C standards. Not to mention all the html / WYSIWYG editors which would have to be recoded...

Internet Explorer is a bad browser in my definition of bad. It's way behind the times and makes my life much harder as a web developer. When something makes my life harder, it's bad. :p

IE rules when it comes to UI offered. only thing close is Safari. I specially like the fact that I can move around toolbars & menubars or even cramp them on one line (menubar + back/stop/refresh+addressbar) and increase my browsing space dramatically.

Sure I can add/remvoe buttons in Ff/safari but it isn't the same.

Also address bar searching and search engine shortcuts are heaven

Although I guess MS should deliver a thorough standards support..not because its better for other browser but for additional features web developers can use.

regarding spywares...if you keep Win/IE updated and know what you are doing...its unlikely that you'll have any problems. I don't use anti-virus or anti-spyware blockers....and till date I haven't had any problems because of IE. Nor I got any 20-min on the internet exploits even before sp1 (I always had tweaked my system to stop unwanted services)

I voted bad in terms of functionality and web standards. Other than that it is an okay browser if you configure it right.

Personally, I use Firefox because of it's unlimited functionality through extensions. And when installed by default, Firefox is just a barebone web browser (no many features, only essential ones). I love fully-customize-able software so Firefox it is.

I use IE and it's wrap around programs like Avant and Maxthon for those sites that don't meet the W3C standards.

My opinion, as a web developer, is that IE stinks.

You must be a ****ty web developer then.

Designing webpages that perhaps one out of three people will be able to view

I fix computers for a living (for 10 years) and 75% of the problems that I see with computers are because of the use of IE. BHO's, viruses, spyware and the list goes on. All the browsers have there downside, but the use of IE can be a nightmare for some and has the potential to be a nightmare for anyone that uses it. Hopefully IE 7 will be a complete rebuild and safer to use.

What about data exchange, portability, accessibility (especially this)? Not to mention the fact that IE is developed for 1 platform (not even the entire platform, IE 7 is said to be XP and above only) and even when it was developed for 2 platforms they were wildly different in many areas.

I agree with stopdroproll. I use IE and, at least in my case, it works faster than Firefox. The problem is that most people do not run a firewall and antivirus. I use ZoneAlarm Pro and I still haven't gotten a piece of spyware into my system.

I'll admit that IE needs a secure default setup like Firefox. IE6 SP2 is a step in the right direction, but it could be better.

That way, all those stupid kids wouldn't blame IE for spyware anymore.

And better implementation of the web standards should prevent web designers from getting cancer or whatever...

ie is not bad. i dont see why people say its bad, it just not good enough featurewise. ie with tabs and extensions, such as ie7, will kill other browsers. securitywise, ie is secure. its just targeted by hackers, if those guys switched to targeting firefox, i bet firefox will releases patches every hour

edit im a firefox user, i use it cause of tabs and extensions.

I think it's a good browser although it lacks a couple of features. Once you install SpywareBlaster to sync. spyware block lists and Windows XP SP2, it isn't as bad as most people point it out to be.

I myself use Opera, only because of its speed and features (eg. tabs).

Bad, most of us can protect our selves from spyware and all that crap (i never got affected by anything).

But it's engine is bad, old, and buggy, and im surprised how many people gloss over that fact, or make excuses for it.

Luckly ms are upgrading it for IE7.
