Converting Mozilla Mail database to Outlook Express, how?

Question

I know you can convert OE mail database to one that is compatible to Mozilla, but, how do you convert it back? I tried converting it back as a Netscape database, and as I suspected it didn't work. Couldn't find any export function on Mozilla Mail either. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Well, get ready for this

Here is how it goes:

The mail files from Mozilla/Netscape6/7 have the same file format as Communicator or the Netscape 4.x series.

You can not import Mozilla/Netscape 6/7 into Outlook Express.

But you *can* import Netscape Communicator/4.x mail files into OE.

So what we have to do is get your mail files from Mozilla into Netscape 4.x :s

Bear with me. First you must download Netscape 4.x. You can do that here:

ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/e...ll/cb32d479.exe

Or maybe you have one of those promotion cd-rom's that some magzines have with Netscape 4.x on it.

Anyway d/l and install Netscape 4.x

Fill in your pop adres, user name and all that.

Now you will have the following structure:

C:Program FilesNetscapeUsersyour user nameMailInbox.sbd

The part were it say's "your user name" is of course your's if you log in with "jdoe" It would be:

C:Program FilesNetscapeUsersjdoeMailInbox.sbd

Here is what you have to do now:

In explorer go to your Mozilla inbox. In Windows 2000/XP it is here:

C:Documents and SettingsYour NameApplication DataMozillaProfilesyour user nameybhs9wj1.sltMailpop.xs4all.nlInbox.sbd

When you can not find your mozilla "Inbox.sbd" do a search for it. Start|Search|Search your C: drive.

Now when you found the Mozilla Inbox.sbd look into it and you will see two kinds of files.

1) Those named after your mail folders without any

extention. Just the name of the mail folder. E.g. "work"

2) Those that *do* have an extension. They are called the same as you mail folders but have an extension. The extension is *.msf So your "work" mail folder will look like this: "Work.msf"

Now you must copy the files *without* the extension to your Netscape inbox folder. Here:

C:Program FilesNetscapeUsersyour user nameMailInbox.sbd

Be sure that you do not copy any files with an .msf extension to the Netscape 4.x inbox.

Check to see if you indeed copied all your mail files without the extension .

Now open Netscape 4.x mail program.

You will see your mail folders apear in the Netscape 4.x inbox but you are not there yet!

Now in Netscape mail 4.x you must look into your mail folders. When you do this the individual mails in the folders will turn BOLD.

Select all your mail in that folder and hit "m" [lower case] until none of your mails in that mail folder are bold anymore.

Repeat this for all your mail folders in your Netscape 4.x inbox. Check to see that none of you mail folders have any bold mails in them.

When it has you can see it because there are BOLD mails in that folder the folders name will also turn into Bold.

So be sure that none of the names of your Netscape inbox will have a name that is in a bold font.

After you have done this close Netscape 4.x mail

Open Outlook Express. Choose File|Import|Messages|Netscape Communicator|Browse. Browse or navigate to:

C:Program FilesNetscapeUsersyour user nameMailInbox.sbd

Choose "import all mail folders". The importing of your mail will begin.

You've done it!! :p

Succes and let me know if you did it and how it went.
