MSI K7T266 Pro XP Intall Error

Recommended Posts

I am trying to install Windows XP Pro on a K7T266 Pro v1.0 (MS-6380) motherboard, and everytime I am about to enter the Windows XP setup, it gives me the error "The file acpi.sys is corrupt.". I have flashed the BIOS, and the error still occurs.

Any suggestions?

Actually, it has nothing to do with your BIOS, but rather a file in your system has gone bad. You can have my acpi.sys from my computer, which can be downloaded at:

www.alltel.net/~sunnyy4/acpi.sys

Copy this file on a floppy, boot into Safe Mode, and replace the file located at C:WindowsSystem32drivers

Mods: If this is considered warez, please remove the link and forgive me.

The hard drive is new, and has no operating system.

Thanks though.:cross:

Yes, Windows XP Professional.

because the warez versions have been up and down the pipes of the internet so many times, there is going to be some errors created in the code

I had the same problem with my same board, I have the MSI k7T266 Pro-R (6380) 1.0, and it turned out to be my memory. I went to the store and bought some samsung memory and it's havent had that problem since, though this board sucks as far as Im concerned. :bandit:

i had the same problem and i fixed it by dumbing down my ram settings, particularly the cas latency. try changing it to 3 or 2.5

i hope this helps;)

Ok, looking back over this and remember my own troubles when I first installed the board.. here's a few things...

1. Is the memory double sided or single sided? I know it sounds goofy, but sometimes boards are finicky. In the case of my MSI K7T266a Pro2 RU board, it hated the single sided crap I had bought at a CompUSA store I used to work at. Exact problem as you discribed in that XP install would cut out reporting bad files or missing files.

2. Is it OEM or Name brand memory? PNY is cheap but not the greatest in the world and as of late i've noticed some boards not liking Kingston (ASUS A7V333 for example).

If you can't install any OS because of the exact problem ("corrupt" files) -- check the cd for wear & tear/cracks/smears/gunk.

As for what my solution was -- I ripped off the local Best Buy cause they had two sticks of 256MB DDR 2100 for $85 a pop, a 3-month old price they had to sell the sticks to me for. Muahahaha..

- Previous MSI system -

CPU: 850MHz

Motherboard: K7T266a Pro2 RU

Memory: 256MB DDR 2100 Crucial

OS: Windows XP Pro/Mandrake Linux 8.2

Replacement reason:

Bad BIOS flash (DO NOT USE LIVEBIOS!!!!), flakey 2nd IDE Controller.

Replacement: AMD 2000+ XP, ASUS A7V333

I had this prob too! I had to turn off the hard drives from booting up in the bios and just have the cd rom boot. Then reinstall WindowsXP fresh. Everything has gone perfect.
