Dazzla Veteran Posted April 6, 2005 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2005 Using a touchpad to scroll on Firefox simply doesn't work. The area down the right hand side of the touchpad is to scroll (as well as the 4 way rocker) but whereas in every other app the cursor will change to a little scrolly cursor and then scroll; Firefox simply changes to a scrolly cursor. No scrolling at all. Any clues?
KennyD
I'm at work and my laptop is at home so I cant really test anything. I really don't use it anymore but I dont remember any problems between those two, and I used the right hand side scrolling exclusively. But google turned up this: http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=node/view/11621 also read this one: http://archive.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/h...c/182457-1.html good luck :)

HoochieMamma
I have the exact same problem, I fixed it by NOT installing any drivers for my touchpad. The default XP drivers allow for scrolling.
Dazzla Veteran Posted April 8, 2005 Author Veteran Share Posted April 8, 2005 Yeah, but I want the drivers for horizontal scrolling and tap zones.
NetRyder
Upgrading to the latest synaptics software didn't do anything :/ 585735797 Updating to the latest version actually broke Firefox scrolling when I tried it a few months ago. It worked fine before I updated, so I reverted back to the version I was using, and everything worked again. Uninstall the new ones before you reinstall the old version. Using v7.10.11 from May 13, 2004, if that helps. :)
david.rothera
I have the exact same problem with my new Laptop, tried updating to latest Synaptic drivers and still no joy, mozilla is added to the ini as well.
icec
There are tons of threads about this on the mozillazine forums, as well links to previous driver versions that will work with it. A search for "synaptics" over there should get you on the right track. @Relativity_17, that trick no longer works (at least with the latest drivers)
zhangm Supervisor Posted April 8, 2005 Supervisor Share Posted April 8, 2005 You were using v7.5.7? http://www.pct.com.tw/en/Support.asp?id=
Dazzla Veteran Posted April 9, 2005 Author Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2005 Why, does 7.5.7 work with that?
zhangm Supervisor Posted April 9, 2005 Supervisor Share Posted April 9, 2005 I just upgraded to 7.5.7 (my drivers were from 2001, what can I say, Gateway support is useless)... My tap pad with virtual scrolling still works in Firefox... It doesn't sound exactly like yours...mine doesn't display any cursor overlay when scrolling, but it still functions the same way. What was the latest version you were using?

NetRyder
I'm using 7.12.7 at the moment. 585748614 That's exactly the one that caused Firefox scrolling functionality to break on my system as well. Revert back to 7.10.11 if you can.
Dazzla Veteran Posted April 9, 2005 Author Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2005 I reverted back to 7.10.14 after reading mozillazine, works in firefox now but it now says evaluation copy in the synaptics control panel..
gahbmwM5
I reverted back to 7.10.14 after reading mozillazine, works in firefox now but it now says evaluation copy in the synaptics control panel.. Hmmm, interesting as my Compaq Presario laptop originally came with WinME installed, and when I upgraded to WinXP Home, I utilized the Compaq Softpaq for the Synaptic Touchpad for WinXP OS...However, even Pheonix 0.5--->up to Firebird 0.8 never worked properly...I searched Mozillazine a lot for any 'concrete answers', but a couple of the Optimized Builders ie: mmoy, who does a great job with various SSE & SSE2 jpeg code optimizations for Firefox tried in vain to find a solution in the Mozilla Code Base... Even a couple of the Firefox Developers asked him if he could 'look into it'...lol Now, I utilize the US 7_8_10 WinXP/Win2K drivers and it seems to be funtional, without the issues that members here are reporting about the 'generic latest Synaptic drivers' v7_12_7 that also completely b0rked up my Firefox scrolling features... I have a link to various older Synaptics drivers, but it does not list 7_10_14 version that you are using.. Older Synaptics Drivers Do you kindly have a link? Thanks, as now I have reverted to using my beloved Logitech v500 Cordless Notebook Mouse and although a bit $pricey, its 4-way Solid State Scroll Panel, and brushed aluminum skin is a match (at least for moi) made in heaven... :D
ckempo
This is a known bug when using the generic drivers, I've seen it posted somewhere. Found out the hard way after formatting my laptop and installing the generic Synaptics drivers myself... soon back to the OEM version, which are slighlty older but work perfectly. I've got a MX1000 for when I'm sat at the desk at home, but when taking it to work something like the v500 would be ideal. I wonder how the system would react to 2 logitech mice installed. The link to the drivers I used is here: http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?s...892&hl=touchpad
gahbmwM5
Hi Dazzla, Thanks for the link as I will check it out now...Samir (Sboulema) does such a great job with his ExtensionMirror site, that I forgot to even 'explore there'...lol I am completely enamoured with my V500 Cordless Notebook mouse, and with the latest Setpoint Drivers, it just updates the USB port and does not conflict with any P2P/Synaptic port... However, just for experimental purposes, I went to the HP/Compaq Support site, and HP has cleaned it up a little better making finding various Softpaqs easier, so I just installed the Softpaq for Synaptic Driver for WinXP (this was also a generic driver), and it was v6_6_6 dated 2001/4... I felt that I got a smoother overall operation with US7_8_10 generic driver especially with Firefox 1.0.2 Aviary, but right now do NOT have any Synaptic driver installed and it just feels that V500 now is really, really smooth & fast with it 4-way solid state scroll panel... If/when you get a chance, go see it at any computer store, as it is about 1" smaller lenghth wize then most regular Cordless Notebook Mice, but I am about 6' and have larger then normal fingers, and have not cramped up once...Its aluminum skin gives it a great feeling with ergonomic finger groves...When you get use to it, the scroll panel (both vertical & horizontal) smokes, unlike the notchy feeling of a traditonal scroll wheel...Not really sure if your MX1000 mouse would indeed conflict with V500, as I don't know what firmware the MX1000 utilizes...lol
