internet connection sharing

Recommended Posts

i have 2 machines - one win98se the other xp home. the xp box has direct access to the internet and i want my win98 box to connect to the internet through it via cat5e crossover. i have the networking set up but i have to tell network neighborhood in win98 to obtain the ip automatically if i want to use internet connection sharing. this works fine, but i would like to assign it's own static ip, preferably 192.168.0.2 with the xp being 192.168.0.1. if i tell it to obtain the ip automatically, i cant share files, use vnc, play multiplayer games, only use the internet through the xp machine. if i decide to give it the static ip it lets me share files, use vnc, etc but no internet. how can i set it to where the win98 machine has it's own static ip with file sharing, etc AND have access to the internet through my xp box? sorry if it all sounds confusing...
