first came a chicken-like creature and through mutation it became the common chicken, which would lay common chicken eggs, the females would be like the original chicken but the males would be based off a cross of the first female and a male chicken like thing

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face. The egg is frowning and looking very frustrated.

The egg mutters, to no one in particular, "Well, I guess we answered THAT question!"

When, neomilan, will ya stop posting stupid threads? :p

By the way, what do you expect - a gorilla laid an egg and a chicken came out?

If you are a creationist, then the chicken came first since God just created it

If you are an evolutionist, then the egg came first, since genetic mutations that gradually lead to new species happen at the moment of inception

All in all, you're starting at the wrong point in evolution. something came before the egg, so it's like asking, what came first, the mother or her child.

But evolution is all about the middle of the process. It cannot explain neither the beginning of a species nor the end. hence the name, evolution.

E(gg)xactly. Leaving one to believe that something always came before.

Ofcourse something came before, a Less chicken-ish animal.

The process of getting chickens was a slow one, it probably started with dinaousers. but each step was taken at the inception of the egg as opposed to the birth of an animal. The animals DNA does not change after it is born.

The egg came first.

When a creature similar to a chicken procreated with another creature similar to a chicken the offspring by chance mutated, so the baby that hatches from the egg happens to be a chicken.

Simple really.

Alright then, which came first, the dinosaur or the egg :s

You're getting closer......but once again, you have to assume the dinosaur has a predecessor too. :p There's always a step back that can be taken. so the "chicken / egg" question is one only the silliest of people will dwell on. Obviously the egg came before the chicken, but that doesn't mean the egg was the beginning, it only indicates the chicken came from the egg. The real question is, where did the egg come from? :p and once you answer that, you have to ask "where did whatever the egg came from come from." :D

It's a little thing called infinite regress and is what you will evantually track EVERYTHING down to, the creation of the creator of all creation!!

Since when did all Dinosaurs produce eggs?

Via evolution Chickens evolved and layed Eggs, usually creatures at the bottom of the food chain lay Eggs in vast quantities.

Urm... Dinosaurs were reptiles. All reptiles reproduce through eggs, as do birds, who are really just evolved forms of dinosaurs.

Right down at the end, It has to be some sort of squishy lifeform in an "egg form" that multiples by itself (like bacteria)

So, it was an egg-shaped-pre-chicken-pre-dinosaur-squishy-one-celled-lifeform that came first.

Being the curious thing i am, i had a google at this question.

It's apparent the chicken came first. it arrived at 10:31a.m and the egg arrived at 21:37p.m. 11hrs 6mins later. :p
