modem
I know many of you may have seen this from other forums and such, but I am looking for the firmware for a CD-RW Drive. The drive is the HP 9510i / Sony CRX160 drive. These two drives really are the same drive with different outward labels on them. I have spent all evening hunting for an updated firmware for them and after hitting the manufactures sites, other nationality sites nothing. Sony doesn't acknowledge that a firmware update exsists and so forth. I have Firmware 1.0e on my HP drive and there is known to be a 1.0g version out that shipped with Sony/HP drives. If ANYONE knows how to save a firmware from these drives or knows where that firmware exsists myself and nearly a 100 other users would be eternally gratefull. I know some users who would drive to your house in an armored car to get the firmware so your help is needed.

Several people's drives shipped with 1.0a, my drive shipped with 1.0e, and the latest shipping version was 1.0g. I've scoured the net to no avail, although I talked with a few in a post and they said that a sony.co.jp site had it buried somewhere. I think my next goal is call sony, play the role of a high up engineer and convince them to email me the firmware that they have but won't send out. :-

I wonder... if there are any tools that can read and save the firmware from the drive and then I wouldn't have to go hunting for it, but have someone with 1.0g save it and send it to me..? I talked to several people who purchased those HP drives recently and they said that it came shipped from the factory with 1.0g firmware which wouldn't surprise me. To answer your question, it's rumored that 1.0g adds support for XP to recognize it as a CD-RW drive not just a "CD drive".
