Tesseract
I know now that I should have held off on installing XP SP1 beta 1, but I could not resist, and now I have a problem with my sound driver as sound will not come out of my speakers. I believe I know what the problem is, but I don't know how to resolve it. I have my normal driver installed and another driver called "Legacy Audio Driver" that I cannot remove whatsoever. I think removing that particular entry in Device Manager will fix my problem. I have tried reinstalling the driver and rolling back the driver, and that does not help. I don't think System Restore will help either. I am almost to the point of removing SP1 (I made a backup of my old files) and going back to good 'ol Win XP Gold. Another thing, when I go to the Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel applet, it says that I have no sound device. Any help would be greatly appreciated. w00t! 700th post! Tesseract
BTW, the sound card is a Turtle Beach Montego II, but in Windows XP SP1 it shows up as Aureal 8830 Audio (WDM). EDIT: Basically what I am asking right now is how to remove the "Legacy Audio Driver" from my system without the use of device man. since I cannot remove it through device man. (see above). The legacy drivers are not the problem, they are installed by windows itself and are irrespective of what sound card you have installed; the problem from what I've read stems from the driver misdetection (aureal instead of turtle beach), but at any rate they don't call it a BETA for nothing! Crash
I had a similar issue, where I could not get the sound card to be seen in XP pro. It turns out that there is a registry entry, that was not giving me full rights to install the driver. I can send the info it to you if you would like. I dont have it handy at my current location.
