Oblivion Lost

From April 14-17th, the Igrograd Exhibition took place in Kiev/Ukraine at which amulti-player tournament of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl was held. Oblivion-Lost.com correspondent FlamingPumpkin was at the show to provide us with information and other material. We have a summary of his impressions noted down. To feast your eyes, make sure to also check out the photos he took and 17 exclusive (!) videos (101 MB) that were captured off a plasma monitor. All of it is a must-see, as there are some new things revealed, such as the game menu, anomalies in action, two new guns (Desert Eagle + Shotgun)) and more.

Here are the impressions:

• If someone shoots at you and you shoot back and take away the same amount of health at the same time, both will die.

• The name of the multiplayer map was "testers_mp_factory".

• I noticed 3 anomalies: "Shock", a gravitational anomaly and the "Meat Mincer".

- The so called "Shock" anomaly strikes you with lightning. I sprinted through it when it began to charge, but, fortunately, it didn't get me.

- The second anomaly "sucked" the player in and killed him.

- And the third one was incredible. I still don't fully understand what it does in the begining, but after you're killed, in it the dead body begins to spin (or swirl) in the air and explodes like a baloon, that is, torn into pieces (see video). A great thing - lots of blood.

• On the level mentioned, there were 3 dead, static cars - a Kraz, Kamaz and Zaporozhets.

• Ragdolls were amazing.

• Respawn looks cool, reminiscent of the Terminator movies: When the process of respawning begins, a small lightning strikes near you.

• PR manager Oleg Yavorsky reads Oblivion-Lost.com regularly, so they've not forgotten the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. community.

• Boxes and other objects seemed quite static, not movable. However, the physics engine was in use in regards to material penetration etc.

• Sounds were amazing, everything had its very own specific sound.

• The game crashed a few times, but it was A LOT MORE stable than the last time I played it.

• The Gamespy client was used for connecting.

• After respawning you are in a "god-mode" for about 5 seconds. During this period there's a sign over your head. There's a very cool animation when you shoot at someone who is immortal as the player has an invisible shield, but when a bullet strikes the god-like player, it shows smoke like on water - really difficult to describe :)

• Every anomaly seems to need some little time to charge. You do have the possibility to sprint through them if you're quick enough.

• When you begin to play , you have some money and you can buy a gun and some armour. If after dying you still have enough money, all stuff is rebought automatically (or you can open the buying menu). On the contrary, if you do not possess any money, the buying window opens and you have to decline gun, armour, both or something else.

• Here is what the winners of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Multiplayer Tournament received:

- 1st: a PC + monitor (AMD Athlon 64, 1024 of RAM, a GeForce 6600 128mb...) and a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. T-shirt.

- 2nd: a "Razer Viper 1000" gaming mouse.

- 3rd: a "First Strike" mouse pad and a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. T-shirt.

- All the other winners got T-shirts and a magazine called "Gaming world navigator" (gamenavigator.ru) with the chief editor's autograph, I think.

See the above source for the pics, and here are links to the videos (100megs). I haven't downloaded these yet, but they're meant to be great!

I can smell STALKER in the air, and the devs claims of "Soon" keeps feeling sooner than many would like to believe.

now why would you say that? i think you mixed this thread up with the one about duke nukem forever, didnt you?

this game has news and updates coming out all the time, including very many recent screenshots. i am 100% sure it will come out soon. as for delays - i am happy they dont rush it. hopefully this will be another halflife2 like experience or better (its better be) for me.

Downloading videos now.

Ever since i saw the first screenshots, I was thinking "Half-Life 2 beater!"

comparing screenshot's they seem to have pushed stalker far beyond the capabilities of source; though its 6 months on now... but many of the things they did have back when source was brand spanking new.

either way both are good games... GO STALKER

I know what you saying, being russian surely helps to play and understand this game and language/words involved in it. Another thing, that show was held in my home town :woot: where i was born, damn why did i move to Australia  . Cant wait for the game, really am looking forward to it, more than any other game, ever. It will be great to see some familiar sights in the the game world, which is said to be 60% historically correct :D . As o videos i doubt i will download them :( i only have 2 gig limit a month, however a 1.5mb connection  .

I wonder what those test pc's used were, what specs, i hope my rig -->2500xp, 512ram, 6600gt can run the game with full eye candy turned up :D

Thanks for info Chode :)

*jaw drops after looking at the graphics on the huge plasma*

Jeez, I was first thinking they were showing photos from their tour to Chernobyl, before I saw the gun and overlayed graphics!

The specifications of those machines were:

AMD Athlon64 3200+

Geforce 6600GT

1024 RAM

It sure as heck looked fluid, and GSC still are working on optimising it. Makes me feel confident that I won't suffer too much when I play this (2600XP+, 1024RAM, 9800 Pro)

Stalker does indeed look good, thanks Chode for letting the community know :)

One thing i am annoyed about, is that theres only been multiplayer demos. Wheres the single player news!! I thought that was the most important aspect of the game :/

There were some video camera'd parts of a single player demo once.

But...to quote Oleg Yavorsky (Senior PR Manager) "We want to leave some surprises :)"

Gameplay seems a bit stiff to me. The reloading, running. Like playing on fast-forward. Hard to explain...

585815320

Yeah I noticed the the player reloading the ak-47 was a bit too fast and it is fast paced but i still really love the games and what i have seen of it so far.

I also d/l those movies and the game looks beautiful from what i can tell:D:D

I've actually been waiting for this since the year 2000 when news of it and a hinted screeny parade was assembled!

585818709

If I'm right, tht would have been back when the game was only called "Oblivion Lost" and was about travelling through portals to alien worlds....

How far it's come :D
