The GUN: General electric M-134 Vulcan mini-gun, 6000 rounds a minute. The Choppers: #1. UH-1 Huey, #2. OH-6 Little Bird assault chopper.

Just wanna add that is a LOT of tracers they're shooting. They could cut that into 1/4 and be just as effective...though I guess it doesn't looks as "cool"

Reminds me of that scene in black hawk down in the last few scenes when they come in with the choppers and do a gun run on the roof of those buildings. Way cool.

Great...more instruments of death...we wouldnt laugh if they got their hands on this and used it on our boys but if video showed up of us mowing down Iraqis, people would be cheering woohoo.

Sheesh.

If you watched Black Hawk Down.. you would know the amry has a few rules on downed air craft.

- make sure the area is secure, and they are still alive

- retrieve all those who were involved.. saving one life, and getting 20 killed in the way is what seemed to happen in the movie.. sometimes in real life.

- take and destroy what you can. do not leave air craft or bodies anywhere that enemies can get them.

the army will destroy air craft that is downed in a field.. that is why you never see barely damaged vehicles in the battle field.. they are all destroyed

yyyep, there were incidents in Vietnam where Choppers would go down, and another Chopper would have to try to extract both the ground unit, and the SAR crew, messy-messy...

p.s. if you think that video is cool, you should try to find footage of AC-130 Spectre Gunships laying down rounds, scary amounts of firepower.

In watching that video I also noticed that there are a few snippits of the Monster Garage ep. where they demo'd a failed project with a mini-gun, I think it was posted on Neowin a while ago...

It was stated that this was training video. So that is why there are so many tracers. You gotta make sure these guys are aiming that gun right! lol

6000 rounds per minute? pfff.

The history channel did a show on bullets a few days ago. They showed this new system being built by the military that doesn't use mechanical means to fire a bullet, but rather electronic means. Basically the barrel of the gun turns into a mini rail-gun. This allows multiple bullets to reside in the barrel, but you can have complete control over how many you fire at a time. One at a time or all of them at once. The setup they have working currently has about 64 barrels (8x8) in a cube-shaped box. Each barrel is filled with bullets (no shell casing, just the round itself), and a computer is used to fire all the bullets at once.

This setup can fire 180 rounds in a fraction of a second. It's sick. You don't even see anything. There's no smoke since there's nothing being ignited. All you hear is a slight buzz as 180 bullets fly out. Such a firing punches a clean 12 inch diameter hole through about a dozen sheets of plywood. The show said that if they had a setup that contained enough ammo to sustain fire for a full minute, the rate of fire would be just over 1.1 million rounds per minute.

1.1 million rounds per minute. 183 times as many bullets as today's fastest guns can fire.
