Hell no and I never will! Firefox has been working great since I've had it :)

Have you even tried Opera?

Where is the option for never having used FireFox? Well, I've tried it for a few minutes on a friends PC, and on a Live CD, but never used it really. So I selected NO in the poll.

I mean, for me to switch, FireFox would actually have to offer me an advantage over Opera.

I did try opera but found it way too bloated for my tastes.

What is it with Firefox fans and bloat? Have you actually tried Opera 8?

Opera is smaller and faster than Firefox. How can you claim that it's "bloated"?

switched from firefix, which sucks, to opera, which rocks.

bloated as in 'smaller, faster and smoother than firefox'? if so, sure.

I use FF most of the time, but the thing w/ opera is that it freaken takes forever to get all my settings and toolbar layouts and stuff in.

Firefox is FREE. No ads to clutter up the top of your browser window. Until Opera is 100% ad free at no charge, it will always be a distant 3rd in the browser world.

Opera may be nice, but Firefox is free, and it's got extensions and it works fine for me so ...!

You dont have to buy opera to remove the ads. :p

I hope that did not sound a bit... 'illigal'.

Technically no, I didn't SWITCH. All three browsers remain on my system: IE6 SP2, Opera 8.01, and Firefox 1.04. Until a month ago Firefox was my main browser, but I got fed up at the lagginess of the browser so for now Opera suits me best. Always an advantage of having everything: if one browser fails to display a page properly, just fire up the other one. Saves a lot of bitching.

It's strange how Opera 7.5 took quite a bit of time to load on my system, but Opera 8.01 loads a second faster than Firefox.

A bit of history: in my usage of web browsers I've installed Opera 3 - 5 times, uninstalled only once (I think.) Firefox (including the pre 1.0 versions) - 6 times, uninstalled 4 times. Pre 1.0 versions irritated me for some reason.

It's amazing how some zealots never ever change, this goes for fanboys of ALL the browsers, Opera and FF included.

Why is it that all you people just have the urge to simply deny anything and everything that's not your own browser? Sad thing is a lot people are not using the browsers that suits their own convenience, but just jumping the the mainstream bandwagon cause everyone else says "this is teh awesome man!!1, and that **** sucks ass dewd." Very few people here seem to have objective thinking, including those who call people who troll against their browsers, trolls, but let it simply slide away when people using their favourite browsers troll their hated choice.

While I myself use Opera(switched from firefox, but so long ago I barely remember since when), I don't have anything against people who use and like firefox, there are different reasons they might like it (maybe they use a few extensions regularly), but the problem here is there are a LOT who don't genuinely like what they are using. I use Opera because it meets my needs and I can make it work better than anything else for me. Other browsers don't seem to meet my needs even after extensive use and customization. A lot of you just see browser Z and it triggers your brain to start flaming...pure classical conditioning.

It's sad how people feel the need to fuel others fires by making posts like: "Tried that crap once, removed it, went back to X. Tried that crap the second time, went back to X. Tried the same crap the third time and guess what? Went back to X. Crap is teh suck." - with a tone like that, it shows how long you actually tried that crap, a few minutes to the max  It's like kids in a school...they deny just because they want to, not because of the facts.

Thank you. Sheesh. Can't stand people that try and throw away browsers in a blink of an eye and make judgements from there.

 I switched from Firefox to Maxthon and haven't looked back. If Firefox has a "groups" function similar to Maxthon, I might peek over my shoulder, though!

  • 2 weeks later...

I just installed Opera, after deciding to give it a fair go (and not be prejudice)

And it looks better, a nicer feel than FF

But I prefer FF for its usability. I'm more accustomed to the shortcuts in FF, and I have very useful extensions too.

So I'm going to leave Opera installed in the background, and I'm still gonna use it.

However, FireFox will be set as the default browser.

Until IE7 comes out, that is ... :shifty:

Nope, Firefox user here. I did try opera but found it way too bloated for my tastes. Although it was a pretty cool browser I admit.

Heh?

Lets have a look on some facts.

Opera download size 3.7mb

Firefox download size 4.7mb

Opera comes with:

Mouse gestures

RSS

Integrated email

Download manager

Paste and Go

Translate high lighted text

Search high lighted text with google, dictionary, encyclopedia, amazon.com, downloads.com and more. And if that isn't enough you can of course easily add more, I added imdb.com and wikipedia.

Integrated IRC client

Zoom function

Notes

Wand for password management and for autofilling forms

And more that I can't be bothered to mention, as I think this list is more than adequate.

Some of these might come with Firefox by default but as far as I know they don't, so they will have to be added with extensions that are often buggy and will cease to work when you update to a new version. An extension that currently are causing problems for some Firefox users is Forecast Fox. And after you have got all the extensions you still need a email client so lets say your are loyal to mozilla and get Thunderbird, that adds another 5.8mb giving a total of 10.5mb (extensions not included).

Opera is a much smaller download and yet by default it comes with a helluva lot more functionality, so where do you see the bloat?

There is nothing wrong with Firefox and with good reason many like it, but to say that Opera is bloated and Firefox isn't is plain ignorance.

 thanks for taking the time and typing all this fanboy. size really matters today when there are 6mbit lines for private use. firefox gets updated daily, means on a regular basis, not only major upgrades like opera. firefox is also free, opera comes with ads. also opera makes it difficult to block ads and it's interface is really far behind todays usability. i don't use any of the features you mentioned, so why bother messing around with disabling them? but that's just personal preference. spend money on a browser if you want. i prefer my free alternatives.

Yawn..... If you don't like the features don't use them, easy as that. The way it is now, there is no need for those who appreciate those features to search for extensions.

BTW why did you see the need to quote my post in full when you posted just after it, don't you think that a simple, "@ ThePast:  thanks for taking the...." would have sufficed?

i had to quote it since you made some good points for those who use opera. i don't, i am used to other stuff i can config to my needs. it all comes down to personal preference.
