Lame thread.

Its amazing how a thread is lame just because you havent switched to Opera. This would be my first time saying this, but stop trolling please.

On topic, I used Firefox for a very long time but then I moved to Opera for simple reasons that I like it better. I still recommend Firefox to everyone who isnt tech-savvy, but to those who use computers a lot and know what they are doing, I recommend Opera. I still switch back and forth between browsers often but I stick with Opera more often than Firefox.

still using firefox. opera 8 won't let me open links in a new tab with middle button. and just little things like the tab's being too tall, the tab toolbar being above the address bar (don't think you can change this?). doesn't have things like gmail notifer and adblock etc. plus i don't notice it being any faster.

Middleclick options are found here: Preferences >> Advanced >> Shortcuts >> Middleclick Options. Toolbars can be redesigned. Put the address bar and other buttons onto the Main toolbar after removing all its buttons. Then you have what you wanted.

Tip: hold shift and then you can move buttons by drag and drop. Even outside the customization dialog.

Why does Opera always display a white border around everything? If there was a way to remove that, then I'd probably use Opera instead of Firefox.

Um, What now? What white border?

i like firefox and i think i prefer the interface, but when i formatted myp pc i did not install firefox, just opera and im getting used to it,

Is there anyway to change the keyboard shortcuts or not?

You sure can. The default keyboard shortcuts really annoyed me at first - I use alt + D for selecting the address bar all the time. Anyway, if you visit this page in Opera you'll be able to download new keyboard shortcuts:

I am using Munin 7.5 - it works fine with Opera 8 and everything now works in the way I'm used to :)

i've tried opera out when 8 was just out, i find there's a lot of bugs in it... when i'm visiting msn beta site and other sites sometimes there's graphic bugs and stuff. it could be that i'm running xp 64 so it's buggy, but with firefox there's no bugs so i think firefox still rules for me!

These white borders. I guess it's because the page uses frames or because of the way it's coded, since they only appear on certain sites.

thanks a lot my friend. i realised that middle clicking was working all along. it just doesn't work on the bookmark list (as it does in fierfox). which is a shame really.

snappyfool - Go to Options, Shortcuts menu and click right in the middle the Middle Click Options and change what you want to.

Also, you can change any toolbar how you want it, see pic for my layout.

Skins located http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins/

Or

Go to Tools, Appearance and click on Skins and then select 'Find More Skins'

Also, in the help menu, if the page doesnt load properly, simply report it using the 'Report a site problem'

I originally switched from IE to Opera, but noticed that most pages that I visit don't display correctly on opera. However, I wanted to use tabs so I switched to firefox, and thats what I'm using now. I tried Opera 8, and it is very customizable but still loads some pages I visit incorrectly - firefox loads these correctly.

I figure what good is a browser if It doesn't work the way you want it to 100%. I'll be staying with Firefox until opera renders these pages correctly. Even then, I probably won't switch because I have firefox setup just the way I like it, and is still free and updated for often.

There are still some microsoft websites, and websites that use Active X, for which I use the Open in IE context option.

I'm giving Opera a real chance here. Still deciding whether O's speed and excellent memory management can make up for the lack of Adblock, the Web Dev toolbar, and Live Bookmarks...

Ooh just read the other thread about how you can get opera 8 for $15 instead of $40 (upgrade from a magazine given Opera 7 license).

Now I might have to consider it.

i switched from Firebird to Opera :)

you know, i don't understand reponses like "FF has less visual clutter." if you wanted to, you could only have one bar with address bar and nothing else, it's all in how you customize it. but i guess you actually have to "spend time with something" in order to know that.

Sorry lillitnn92 but methinks no referral links allowed in your sig.

Which makes it hard to get to 250 clicks + downloads.

really? didn't know that. changed it to just Opera.com link. that better? :)

"And of course, do not contain links to, or use your signature to link to pages that contain objectionable material. This includes, warez, cracks, pornography, pyramid schemes, referral id's, ebay listings and requesting donations."

It's good now.

For just $15 I might go for it, but I'm still not sure.
