Hehe, now I'm using Opera and my sig tells me I'm using IE 6.

Anyway, Opera is so cluttered. The room for the window doesn't have room to display as much as in FF and IE.

Oh yeah, does Opera have tabbed browsing?

There is a bug in the script which powers your signature. By default Opera identifies itself as IE 6 and Opera 8.0, Opera should be easily detectable. I'd recommend sending an email to danasoft.com and asking them to correct this problem.

Rightclick on a toolbar and choose "customize". You can move buttons around, hide toolbars, move toolbars, etc. My Opera layout only has two toolbars, and one of the toolbars only shows if I have more than one page open.

Yes.

Thanks, man. Yeah, it could be a bug in danasoft.

I just e-mailed them about it.

Well, if you press F12, then "Identify as Internet Explorer" will be selected and that's how your user agent will be identified.

And selecting Mozilla will still show up as Opera 8.0, just so you want to know.

I just checked that. Odd. It seems the default was to identify as IE. I changed it to identify as Opera.

The signature still says I'm using IE 6.0 though, so...

Quick customizing question for you Opera types.

I cant seem to get the tab bar to display under the address bar. Any tricks to getting that working?

The default identifies as IE and Opera at the same time. The mozilla option identifies as Mozilla and Opera at the same time. The Opera option identifies as Opera and only Opera. No matter which option you use, it should still identify you as an Opera user.

The reason why the options identify as two browsers is because many sites do browser sniffing to block non-IE or non-Netscape (Mozilla) browsers and they don't bother to do extensive browser sniffing so those options allow you to bypass such cheap browser-blocking attempts. Another benefit is that those who need to specifically cater for Opera can still do so. If you don't experience any problems identifying as only Opera then keep that setting (web designers use stats programs which mess up detecting Opera sometimes, just like the script powering the signature mentioned, and if designers see the increase in Opera usage then they're more likely to check and fix their sites for Opera users.)

Move the address bar buttons/fields to the main bar, then move the main bar buttons where you want those to appear. This is what I have done. My first toolbar is the main toolbar which has a menu button (menu is not enabled at the top, I use a button to make those options appear in a dropdown menu), back, forward, stop/reload, new-page, and the address field. The second toolbar is my tab-bar, which only displays if there's more than one page open. Very comfortable and screen-space effecient :)

Lol no. I tried it-And hated it. Just seems really buggy compared to Firefox.

Buggy? Please tell us how to reproduce those bugs. If you actually have any valid findings then I would be more than happy to submit those bugs to the bug report system so they can be fixed.

No. Actually, I switched from Opera to FF. It's not that I don't like Opera (it's my favourite browser), but it keeps segfaulting on me. It's most likely my fault though.

How do you move the address bar? I deleted all the Opera stuff on the top, and now it's just blank.

The address field and the buttons ON the address bar. You can't move the actual toolbar, just everything inside of it :)

still using firefox. opera 8 won't let me open links in a new tab with middle button. and just little things like the tab's being too tall, the tab toolbar being above the address bar (don't think you can change this?). doesn't have things like gmail notifer and adblock etc. plus i don't notice it being any faster.

What does gmail notifier have to do with Firefox?

Middleclick options are found here: Preferences >> Advanced >> Shortcuts >> Middleclick Options. Toolbars can be redesigned. Put the address bar and other buttons onto the Main toolbar after removing all its buttons. Then you have what you wanted.

Tip: hold shift and then you can move buttons by drag and drop. Even outside the customization dialog.

It lets me drag, but it won't let me drop it where I want to.

I have to say that Opera surprised me a lot. It loads faster that Firefox for me and I prefer the UI very much. I won't stick to one single browser I think I just take advantage of competence.

snappyfool - Go to Options, Shortcuts menu and click right in the middle the Middle Click Options and change what you want to.

Also, you can change any toolbar how you want it, see pic for my layout.

Skins located http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins/

Or

Go to Tools, Appearance and click on Skins and then select 'Find More Skins'

Also, in the help menu, if the page doesnt load properly, simply report it using the 'Report a site problem'

Your layout is exactly the way I want it. If only I could figure it out...

i switched from firefox to opera...but after about 2 minutes returned to firefox.

my reason: its just not as customisable as firefox, and i really love how firefox is setup and stuff.

the opera features such as voice navigation are of no use to me. also, for those saying opera is faster than firefox.

thats no issue for me, because im quite happy with my firefox speed.

anyway, thats my reason. i prefer firefox and i reckon there should be an option in the poll saying "yes, and went back to firefox"

I use Firefox 1.0.x at work, I need stability, however, I enjoy bleeding edge at home, so I'll use Firefox 1.1-trunk. I cant do without the adblock ;)

What customization problems were you having?

the opera features such as voice navigation are of no use to me.

Voice navigation isn't useful for most people, that's why it's not included by default

The poll was wether or not you switched, it is not about tring it. If you tried Opera and stuck with Firefox, did you switch? No. That option is available in the poll.
