stupid ie and it's non-extensability...

ok, I'll try admuncher. I don't need another ie based browser, I just wanna block ads and crap for the sites I have to use ie to view properly.

are you two retarded?

I have firefox, I have the google toolbar, neither of those will help me block ads in ie like adblock does in firefox.....

finalcut is right - try Maxthon or Avant.

Both freeware, both are small downloads/installs, updated regularly, continue to use the IE engine, favorites, settings, etc, then include ad and pop-up blocking, tabbed viewing, a built-in Search bar (user-defined) and their own security settings.

I appreciate your interest in running IE and nothing else - why reinvent the wheel, especially if you are careful in your security settings and choice of website - but these are probably the closest to 'fixing' IE and without loading a lot of stuff onto the computer.

Firefox means a whole new browser, importing data over and has it's own security and support issues (and you'll still have to install IE-specific Windows Updates to keep your computer current), Admuncher is shareware, Proxomitron appears a little dated and the Google Search Bar is a BHO and a form of adware which you may not wish to have.

Using myIE2 and Maxthon since January 2004. Currently Maxthon 1.2.4

Lets just remember, your're getting IE7 because of Firefox. Loading lot of stuff onto your computer, one program, Firefox, so who uses a default XP install with absolutely no additional programs?

even Firefox 1.0 is still safer than IE. No activeX crap, no massive exploits, no potential spyware. Theres plently of benefit of a non-IE based browser, which easily outway any negatives.

wow you guys are all slow, I wanted a program that would integrate into ie to block adds, not popups, like adblock does for firefox. I have firefox, some sites need ie to display properly, and when I do have to use it I want no ads displayed.

I went with admuncher, thanks to the people that suggested it and proxomitron, which I used to use on windows 98 with much joy.

to the rest of you, don't post in a thread about something offtopic (ie firefox, maxthon, googlebar, it's not a browser discussion forum, it's a "answer jesse's question" forum) unless you say it's offtopic.

thanks all, someone close this now.

The next public beta version of Ad Muncher will have the ability to right click on images and links in IE, Opera and firefox and send them to Ad Muncher for blockage.

It's due out in a week or so.

You can check their forum, http://www.admuncher.com/forum/ or the IRC channel #AdMuncher on EFnet

It's gonna rock!!

just get opera and dl opera ad filter

firefox has a decent popup blocker(just download the extensions called adblock and flashblock for firefox and your rocking)

the ie popup blocker in sp2 is not very good

admuncher i think is a waste of space, the ie based browsers have good popup blocking

soldier1st, have you even TRIED Ad Muncher?

It does so much more than Opera Ad filter that it isn't even funny.

Check out the options on the "My filters" tab...

"Remove links to URL."

"Remove images/etc with URL"

"Block retrieval of URL"

"Remove all popups from URL"

"Remove images with "alt" text"

"Remove scripts with text."

"Remove tables with text."

"Remove divs/spans with text."

"Remove forms with text."

"Allow popups with URL."

"Minimal filtering on URL."

"No filtering on URL."

"Don't match against keyword."

"Add javascript to all pages"

"Add CSS to all pages"

And that's just on ONE tab.

It works on ANY browser so once you have it setup the way you want...you don't have to worry about ads no matter which browser you happen to use that day.

http://www.admuncher.com/beta.pl?version=4...3&key=173861843

This beta also adds the promised ability to right click on ads inside Opera/IE/firefox/netscape and mozilla.

Your ignorance as to how either program works is quite obvious.

So to those who claim that proxomitron is dated - the base program is dated I guess, but that's like saying Windows XP SP2 is dated. Sure, windows XP came out in 2001, but there's been all sorts of updates available. Same with proxomitron. The filterset I use is updated frequently - there was a release today.

And I'm still really waiting for a benefit from AdMuncher over proxomitron to make it worth paying for. I think the one thing it has is the rightclick to block, but I can just copy the link into a proxomitron urlkill list from the System tray icon if I really want to, or I just mention it on the forum and it gets blocked in the next update.

I haven't used admuncher myself, but I've been told it doesn't do click to play/run flash and java, nor google rewriting nor exploit defusing.

to me, proxomitron seems to be geared towards those who like free apps and those that like to tinker with it. ad muncher is geared towards those that just want to install it and have it work.

I use Ad-muncher. I like it but some sites won't load or load as fast b/c it blocks some things, so you gotta put a filter on it to say don't block it ;) Looking forward to the new version :)

Doesn't SP2 bring a Pop-up Blocker Add-on to IE with it?  :pinch:

Yes, but he wants to block all ads, not just popups.
