vincent
NEW DELHI, May 5 (UPI) -- India announced Thursday dates for a new round of talks with neighbor and rival Pakistan and a fresh set of confidence-building measures. Indian and Pakistani officials will meet in Lahore, Pakistan, May 10-11 to discuss a new bus route between the Indian city of Amritsar and Lahore, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said. The bus route is the second after the historic start last month of a service between the Indian and Pakistani sides of Kashmir. Also May 10 and 11, Indian Coast Guard officials will meet with their counterparts to establish communications between the two organizations, Sarna said. On May 25 and 26, defense secretaries will meet in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, to discuss troops in the disputed Siachen Glacier, often described as the world's highest battlefield. Later that week, officials will meet to discuss the disputed Sir Creek issue, Sarna said. Although the two nuclear-armed rivals have fought three wars since 1947, they have over the past two years increased cultural and diplomatic exchanges.
