Democratic Church Purge

Yesterday, on the National Day of Prayer, we learned that the East Waynesville Baptist Church in North Carolina essentially kicked out its Democratic members.  Nine members were "excommunicated" and 40 other members of the 405 member church resigned in protest.

"One of the local women who got excommunicated said on TV that it was like a cult. Another man who got excommunicated said that the rest of the congregation stood up and applauded as the Democrats were told to leave."

all i gotta say is WTF

I know I'll never ever see anything like this in the UK, so even after all the mud-sligning of this election, that's a good thing

I just pray that people have the ears and eyes to see that this crap ain't what the Lord wants. I mean, I can only imagine what kinda damage this stuff does in folk's minds. So, for everyone who looks at this and says "See, it's all a buncha bull." just remember that God wants you to follow Him and not the silly rules that man creates.

They need to practice what they preach and not judge people.

We all need to do that. :) That also includes you guys. ;)

Another black eye for the church.

RTFA. I don't see how the Souther baptists at the East Waynesville Baptist Church in North Carolina are representative of the "church".

I saw we take away there tax-exempt status.

Since you are a mod, I'm going to go easy on you. This is not representative of how most churches are. Take a look at the majority of charities in the "inner cities" and you will find that most of them are run by churches and those that are not probably receive some money from the inner city churches. They offer various services to those whom the "state" refuse to help or are unable to help. Since you Americans don't seem to believe in a social safety net, the homeless and working poor have nowhere else to turn. Don't be rash and ultimately hurt the most vulnerable in society. This "tax exempt" status is supposed to be there for churches to either run or support other charities in the local community as well as to cover costs. They are "not for profit" societies essentially.

So basically, you have two choices, keep the tax exempt status for churches and other charities "or" vote in a socialist government that will use tax money to eliminate poverty.

I would like to seem an end to poverty but I do not believe the state is capable of doing the job efficiently and I do not want to give up my "freedom" in the process.

Don't judge people or paint them with a broad brush.

Well said, completely agree with everything said here. No need to punish all charities (religious or not) because we don't agree with the actions of one. I'd much rather see a grassroots campaign to notify everyone in East Waynesville about the actions of this church or have a well known minister condemn the actions of the church. Revealing the corruption is much more effective than silly regulations.
