bangbang023 Veteran Posted May 6, 2005 Veteran Share Posted May 6, 2005 You must be using a nightly from 5/6 or later to take advantage of this: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/chase/archives/008085.html It's definitely nice to have pages load with no delay, at all, when going back through my history. beanboy89
It's also made it in to the latest Seamonkey build which I'm currently using. The back and forward navigation seems very fast, almost instantaneous.

em_te
I don't need to use the "back" button anymore now that I've got tabbed browsing. ;)

Opera has had it for ages now. Check the Neowin front page for more neat stuff that Fx 1.1 will be getting.
em_te
By the way, bangbang, do you know if the "preserved element focus" and "preserved text selection" bug will be fixed with the "instant-back" feature? These two bugs are keeping me and others from using the back button and requiring us to use "tabbed browsing". The "preserved element focus" bug requests that when you click the "back" button, the last focused item on the previous page, should be re-focused again. (Just like how the scrolled position is preserved when you click "back".) This allows you to just hit the "tab" key to focus on the next consecutive link/button in a list of focusable items. The "preserved text selection" bug requests that when you click the "back" button, the selected text on the previous page, should be reselected again. One reason is that people often search on a text selection and sometimes want it to open on the same page. Clicking "back" should reselected the text so that they can easily remember what they searched for, and perform another search quickly. Another reason is that, text selections are sometimes used by people to remember what they were reading last, on that page.

It's not a stock feature in IE and not one I've seen many people even talk about.
