America's Technological Wall is Falling

There has to be a fundamental shift in this country. We can't keep going on with this ridiculous mindset of working faster, not smarter. And we have to tailor our educational facilities to be more in-line with what's going on in other global areas. Our higher-learning institutions are still among the best in the world. But if we don't fix the mid-and lower level grade insufficiencies, eventually the universities are going to suffer. It'll be a sad day when we have to outsource college students, as well as manufacturing jobs.

Not only do we need to fix education, we also need to get out of these stupid free trade agreements and impose retaliatory tariffs.

Agreed. We need a system based on fair trade not free.

I laugh cuz i hear it all the time in engineering. North america doesn't push the sciences enough. Too many lawyers and business majors everywhere.

This country has fallen from what it 'was' known for. In the past, the USA was always trying to be a first for everything. From medicine to aviation, from education to economy, etc... Now it seems as the USA is more interested in politics and lobbying than its future. We lost site of what made the USA all it was and all it worked for. Kind of like what Bill Cosby said not to long ago about African American not appreciating what was sacrificed for them in the past.

I personally think it will continue this way and we'll starting see the USA not being the worlds only/main super power. The USA government will have a difficult time dealing with the change when it comes to its political power around the world and that is a scary thought about the possibilities for what to happen.

There is an interesting article in Newsweek, take a look at it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7693580/site/newsweek/

That was a good article out of Newsweek. America can retain the upper hand so long as it gets it's act together and starts investing back in R&D ect...

Interresting article. I'm not an economist but i can certainly say that i agreed with some statements and agreed with others.

"Bush talked obsessively about terror. He sees all of us through that one prism. Yes, we worry about terror, but frankly that's not the sum of our lives. We have many other problems.

Living in canada i find it ****ing rediculous about having to get a passport to pop down to bellis-fair mall or hit a concert in seattle. I'd really like to see the US get its act together economically.

After 911 security will always be a major concern in the US.

true. we don't have much of a culture that promotes learning and education outside the universities, and sometimes even those don't have it. maybe it's complacency.

Security will always be changed from what it was prior to 9/11/01. Needing a passport to go in and out of the USA is probably pass due.
