DreAming in DigITal
I think there are fears that it could lead to cold-hard killers.? It takes away the reality of death and makes taking an animal's life a little too much like a game. 585899491 Exactly...When your a kid growing up and you go hunting for the first time and then kill something for the first time you see and smell the effects. It also teaches you respect for the animals you kill and the weapons you use. Because you've seen first hand what a gun can do to flesh. It's nothing like televisions and video games and shouldn't be further confused. If there was a better way to get the handicapped back out into hunting I would support it though... dreamz Veteran Posted May 10, 2005 Veteran Share Posted May 10, 2005 Well, as a hunter I have to say that while no real self respecting hunter would do this, I don't see it any worse than organized hunts that basically put you right on top of your kill. I do also know of a wheelchair bound hunter who could benefit from this.Aside from just blanket deriding of the activity, what are all of your detailed objections? Are you just opposed to hunting in general? 585899414 i'm not opposed to hunting per se. i mean, i do eat meat. that would be a contradiction. of course, i would demand that hunting be humane (i.e. the treatment of the animal is not cruel), and that it is not merely done for the sake of sport (i.e. not just killing for the sake of killing, but actually consuming the animal or putting it to use. at least that would give it some dignity). but i don't see why an online first person shooter, given that it doesn't even really resemble real hunting anyway, should require the death of an actual animal. the person sitting at his computer wouldn't know the difference between in any case. he could be told that a real deer were shot and he would feel the same. spare the animal, please. I do see your point about the disconnect from the reality of the kill. How can you smear virtual blood across your face after the first kill, that is an essential part of hunting. ;)
