PLEASE HELP!!! cd ROM SHUT OFFS

Recommended Posts

hey neowin....got a major problem.

i have two cd roms hooked up to the secondary IDE on my motherboard. Everytime my PC reboot, on the main system startup screen, the Secondary Master and secondary slave dissapear and show "none" but when i shut down and shut the PC off from the back switch, and turn itback on, both CD roms now show. This is eally starting to get to me.

Any suggestions?????

I assume what your saying is when your mobo posts and it shows what's starting BEFORE getting into windows it says None there right? But when you cut the power and turn it back on your mobo detects them?

If thats so it sounds like a bios problem, if those channels are set to auto in the bios try manually setting them to cd-rom, if set manually try to turn them to auto.

What kind of motherboard is it?

The board is K7S6A

Ok, here is what I found. I have two cd roms and two hard drives. Both Hardrives are on primary as master and slave. the cd roms are on Secondary master and slave.

The primary harddrive is my Wester Digital 45er and the second is my IBM 120 Gig. I have the WD set to master and the IBM to slave. Everytime i boot my pc with just the Western Digital and the Primary master with no Primary slave, EVERYTHIUNG WORKS GREAT..but once that IBM is connected as the primary slave, all hell breaks loose....does this help?

hey I got a k7s5a. Well you could try moving the IBM to the other master so that both HD's are Masters and both cd-roms are slaves.

Second, maybe a bios upgrade could fix it.

Third try searching and posting here. The best ECS forum there is and a great source of info. But you may have to bump a couple but once the guys bite there you'll get some good help. Here it is.

Hope any of this helps.

Thats the Tiawanese website, they get the newer drivers earlier than the us site. But don't bother, i checked the revisions and the new bios add's usb fixes and support for the new athlon. Rule of thumb with ECS boards i've found is don't flash unless it fixes something you need. And If you do decide to flash read thier faqs up there cause your board uses a different flash utility than mine.

Basically what it'll entail is put the biosflash utility and the bios rom file you wanna upgrade to, you'll reboot into dos, if using xp you'll need a dos boot disk, then start the flash program and select what you want to do OR you'll have to find out the switches and flash from the command line. Not recommended if you haven't done it before And it won't fix your problem.

And another thing, I never quit understood if the IDE channel was failing DURING boot or in Windows. If it's windows a new driver might fix it, although unlikely

no you have the next to latest bios, the only thing added was support for new athlon but it doesn't say wich. Plus your cpu's fine anyways. Try switching the drives then the forum.

Also how many ram dimms do you have?

hey, not sure yet. lol, i went home to trouble shoot yesterday but still seeming to have problems. I'm gonna try it one more time. Just for ****s and giggles...I'll run what I have set right now for you..

Primary Master: WD 45gig set to "master"

Primary Slave: IBM 120 GXP set to "slave"

Secondary Master: Regular CD rom

Secondary Slave: Plextor 40X CDRW

Wanna check the specs on this drive on the IBM website? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Mike
