Safari RSS features on PC?

Recommended Posts

I'm running a Mac at home with Tiger on it. I must say, I'm quite taken by how awesome the RSS features are in the new version. It has really cut my browsing time down quite a bit. It is simple, and it is amazing. I have it setup to check all the web sites I normally read, and also check my new messages in my gmail inbox. Then, on a whim, I can have all that information in a standardized format all on one page with most recent events first. With awesome search and browsing capabilities.

Now I'm at work and wanting the same functionality. I've tried the Sage extension for Firefox, but it doesn't combine all my feeds into a single page.

Any ideas?

xxdesmus: Sage is really nice, I especially like how you can use a custom style sheet... i Love customizable stuff.

If it included a way of showing all my RSS feeds on a single page, it would really be what I'm looking for. It looks like Sage is Open Source. Maybe I can modify it to do what I want.....

Thanks for that, Fotix. I've tried Lektora, but it is still not what I'm looking for.

1. The rss feeds are compiled into one page, but you must organize what you want to see first. There is no way (that I can find), to have it list the feeds in a chronological order of posts. On Safari RSS, I'll have one article from Neowin, then the next will be a new email in gmail i just received, then something from Neowin Software, and then another article from the Neowin main page, and so on.

2. The interface is pure bloat! RSS is suppose to be about simplicity. I don't want needless graphics all over the place and styling that looks like it's targeted OS is Longhorn. Gross. Also, the window size seems to be targeting 1280x1024, and my laptop window is only 1024x768. The left frame takes up 40% of my window! And the only reason I can see to this is so it fits with the style they are using.

3. I don't understand. On the main page it says that it is absolutely free, but then bothers me to buy it for $30 to remove ads. I don't see any ads in the program, however. I just found this weird. Is the ad to be removed the one that advertises it for $30?

Again, thanks for the reply! I don't want to discourage anyone from posting what they like.. and I'm willing to try whatever.

For now, Sage seems to be the better RSS reader for being simpler and having custom style sheets an options.

Not trying to "troll" ( god, I'm getting sick of that term ), but I personally love Opera's method of handling feeds (with the exception of them being in the mail panel ). I have been looking for a Firefox extension that will somehow mimic it.

actually, it's true. I fell in love with how Opera did the RSS feeds, for awhile, I was even tempted to switch from Firefox...but than eventually I went back to Sage...;)...but I must say, it almost got me...:D

Never found anything on Windows that does RSS as nicely as Safari RSS. Sage is the closest free alternative you're going to get, I think.

  • 2 years later...

I know this thread is old, but just for anyone searching, I've recently started using google reader as my default rss reader in firefox, and it works really well. YOu can view all articles chronologically or divided by site. It's working really well for me.
