SniperX critcism is ok, but the trolling isn't.

You said that you don't like the attention ###### pics in comments among other things, well i certainly didn't like your attitude and the way you brought some points over, it sounded more like you prefer to be elsewhere.

I guess its down to the person how he supports a website, so far I get the impression that you

- wouldnt view ads (thus supporting Neowins revenue)

- dont wish to subscribe

but you still want me to implement dynamic features that would drive the cost of running this site up further, your logic is completely off and I really can't see how you could justify me giving you more while you think I should also pay for your experience out of my own pocket.

Its like unemployment benefit, the guy that stays in work has to pay the contribution and the guy who (only) lives from the benefits shouts 'I'm entitled!'

Yeah because someone else pays. ;)

Its pointless discussing this further with you, I already said we have a 4th server coming and the trend here at Neowin has ALWAYS been about giving, not taking.

I am well within my rights to block any ads i see fit, wether you think its right or not. I dont pay my isp subs to look at adverts all day.

585910182

That's just being stubborn, as they don't exactly pop out of the screen and smack you in the face now, do they?

I currently use adblock, I never see ads. But once adblocks gets a white list feature, I'm definately going to add Neowin onto the white list and click on ads often.

And also, as soon as I'm going to buy a subscription as soon as I have a method of paying:):)

585911393

If you actually look at the URL of the ad you're blocking, you can filtre by customer. I block very obtrusive Adsense ads on another site, but Neowin's show just fine.

Im a jerk because i personally dont want to look at the ads? its shocking how many people are sucking up to the admins, i can appreciate how much time/effort/money goes into Neowin, ive been here through the ups and downs and clicked a lot of ads in my time here.

585912664

No, because you refuse to see the point. It goes back to the first quote in this post.

sell merchandise. nice stuff. not **** like cafe press.

i'd be willing to help out in any way i can with any new things you would like to add to neowin.

i admit there are certain things i don't like here and i tend to voice them a lot. but i also admit this is still the site i visit most frequently (except for mine) because of all it has to offer.

It seems to be that some people hate this place until it comes to promoting a new Invision Board skin or some other thing they want attention for. Kind of funny.

How am i a free-loader, i pay rent for my house, i pay my electric bills, i pay my internet subscription, i bought my pc...

So kindly get off your high horse and do something constructive, there are plenty of other free sites i can go to but i prefer to stay at neowin and i dont appreciate people like you whose been here for literally 2 minutes telling me.

585912664

What the heck does paying for a house have to do with being a free-loader? You're a free-loader, period.

I'm here for "literally" 2 minutes. Brilliant statement of the hour. Do you know how long I was here before I registered? I'm guessing that's a "no".

I'm not getting off my "high horse" until I stop seeing damn free-loaders post how they block ads, and you better be happy with it, or else.

As for "sucking up to the admins", I've been posting this repeatedly in BPN for months. People still don't listen.

But here's another one -- I just tried looking and I can't even find a "Donate" button. Perhaps it's not that people don't want to give back, so much as the opportunity simply isn't there?

585913092

I agree with this one. It's been suggested before. I don't know if I'm interested in becoming a Subscriber, but I definitely would consider donating a few dollars.

Woah, never thought this thread would grow to what it has....

Neobond.... I have a greater respect for what you have done here, and you make perfectly valid statements. I've used ad-block in the past, but have since started filtering through those lists to allow neowin ads. Heres some clicks for you!!!

The ads do not bother me on here, never have.

You see, the amount of knowledge and expertise available on Neowin is second to none.

Ive been looking for some other forums (Non-Tech related) and you can join most for free, but HAVE to pay ?5+ to gain access to the help and information, guides, support etc.. IE the stuff you joined for.

With the free memebership all you get is the 'Hi, im new' Forum and posting pictures (its a car Owners Club Forum)

I think members here should think themselfs lucky its not like that here, yet.

All im saying is:

Be greatful that you access to read and posting rights to ask questions and get help that is available from Neowins Members.

This could EASILY be accepted as a Paid Only forum for the amount of knowledge here and knowledgable members at hand.

Ads allow Neowin to stay online, if everyone had the same reservations as you Oneill then Neowin would vanish off the net or become subscription only (at a hefty price) I own this site and even I have to look at ads, its not the reason I put up Neowin (to overload it with ads) its a simply a necessity and one thats becoming increasingly difficult with so many members thinking like you do.

edit: I always like to think the ads are integrated in the design and are at a non obstructive location on the page. They don't bother me and I help pay to keep this site online, it seems logical to me seeing as I benefit from it as much as any other regular member.

585910240

that made me change my whole logic on ads from neowin...

*adblock on neowin removed*

ahh the good ol' ads.. if its for neowin, ill do it :)

Personally, I only block obtrusive ads (e.g. intellitxt and the flashing "YOU'VE WON!!!!11111eleventyone" ones), but I do have to say, if someone wants to stop the adverts from displaying on their monitor, why shouldn't they be allowed to?

If they aren't ever going to click on the advert, why even bother to look at it?

I just ignore them. I suppose if they were big, flashy and "ZOMG YOU WON!!!" I might kick them a few times....

but you still want me to implement dynamic features that would drive the cost of running this site up further

Read again, they were put forward as suggestions for ways you might look at to generate revenue. I personally don't care whether you implement them or not.

I really can't see how you could justify me giving you more while you think I should also pay for your experience out of my own pocket.

You decided that the moment you put the first page to a website, like it or not.

You don't like my attitude? There's a million others like you who don't. It's immaterial. I am nothing to you and likewise, you are nothing to me -- just another guy who runs yet another website. I'm not overly keen on your 'woe is me' attitude either, if we're being honest.

Nobody is forcing you to maintain a site you claim that you can ill afford. Either it's so much of a problem that you take it down and quit whining because not everyone will view your ads (An irony as Neowin is such a strong supporter of the browser which lets me so easily block them) or, you accept my suggestions as such and gracefully reject or accept them. Alternatively, you could ban me I suppose, pretend the problems don't exist and that all will see the benefit of sitting patiently clicking ads that they absolutely no interest in, but that would be futile as we both know. Anonymous and transparent proxies being as they are.

Or, I suppose, you could hope that I convert to one of the lying neokids who sit telling you that I click on the ads to help the cause when I don't. In fact that seems the easiest option. I just clicked on a dozen ads to support you. Wake up to the reality of the web and quit living in a dreamworld. Sites far bigger than this have realised they need to get off their arses because people just don't view or click on ads. What makes you so special?

P.S. bangbang -- Sorry I didn't get around to responding to your dig. You're simply not interesting enough these days. I already know your view of me.

Let the flames and name-calling begin. First prize who womever calls me a name I've never been called before.

It's not a "dig", it's a fact based observation. You complain about things, yet as soon as you have a new IPB skin, you come here to post about it. Why? What's the point if you have so much to complain about?
