How To Tell If I Broke My Jaw

Recommended Posts

Last night I get hit very hard on the left corner of my jaw / just under it, a little below my ear. My whole kneck / side of the head got a dull pain and went numb for 20 seconds or so. I was shaken and I had a slight headache afterwards. I felt my jaw line pretty extensively, moved it around etc...and aside from the pain it felt like it was ok. Today it's pretty swollen, doesn't look bad but I feel the size difference. It hurts to chew or open my mouth and it's incredibly tender where it got hit. Other things like sneezing, blowing my nose, laying down to sleep all cause a good deal of discomfort as well.

I iced it for about 20 minutes last night. Aside from that and going to the doctor, anyhting else I should do?

I am guessing its just swollen and thats about it, if it was broken you would not be able to chew anything. Did you get in a fight or something?

if it was broken you'd be in a lot more pain indeed :p

I guess it's just beat up pretty well and in extreme cases there might be a LITTLE TINY fracture, but I don't think so...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I didn't expect bruising to bring about such sharp pain without even opening my jaw half-way etc. I can easily just bear the pain, be a man and eat my food....but sometimes doign that just injures yourself further, which is what I'm being cautious for.

I got hit right on the neck with a bo staff. I'm just thankful it wasn't a full power swing, or I'd be dead most likely. Makes me feel bad for anyone who crosses me when I have a bo staff or pair of nunchaku on me, because if they caught a full power swing on their neck.....damn, I feel bad for them already.

See the doctor or face the concequences such as the unability to move your jaw permanently.

If you resist seeing the doctor, show it to your parents who might agree with my statement above.
