alsheron
I sometimes notice when browsing the web that the site i'm on fires up the JAVA icon in my system tray. I hate this most of the time. Is it potentially dangerous? Can I then close the JAVA program? Thanks.
Johnston
i doubt its dangerous aslong as your using the latest version of java. I use opera and have java disabled, and some site has to use java then i turn it on with the quick prefs on f12, sure theres a similar way in ie and firefox etc. It can be a real memory hog and slow your comp down and alot of sites use it when they dont need to so i turn it off and its just java, javascript has nothing to do with java weird as it may seem. alsheron
Are there any known exploits in Java........? Thing is..... I visit some highly dodgy website on my surfs and it's usually these that fire up the JAVA icon in my system tray. I'm wary of Java, but don't really want to disable it unless I have to. Thanks for the advice so far.....
NullPointerException
It depends on what you mean by "dangerous". It cannot acces your HD unless you allow it. But it can monitor what sites you visit and report that to someone for example.
