That kinda makes me think its a phishing scam...

I dont even think MS owns that site. Also using opera does not prevent you from being phished. Phishing is reliant on human error, and I believe you are human. Consider yourself a victim of phishing.

I got this from runnning a WHOIS on 'www.msnmessengercompetition.com'

Visit the plain ol' .com of that site, and you get a 403 forbidden. That's most unlike microsoft, to let traffic go un-directed. I would've expected them to re-direct to the MSN Messenger page, rather than just do a 403... Something about it just doesn't seem right to me.

This is strange. I ran a domain whois on that website address and got this:

Domain Name: MSNMESSENGERCOMPETITION.COM

  Registrar: TUCOWS INC.

  Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net

  Referral URL: http://domainhelp.tucows.com

  Name Server: NS1.MSNMESSENGERCOMPETITION.COM

  Name Server: NS2.MSNMESSENGERCOMPETITION.COM

  Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK

  Updated Date: 24-mar-2005

  Creation Date: 21-mar-2005

  Expiration Date: 21-mar-2007

Strange, huh? Tucows and Microsoft or is Tucows going all illegal on us now?

Edit: whoops! Didn't see ElectricDaemon had edited his post until I'd posted mine :pinch:

Might not be classed as Phishing in the most technical sense of the word... but they're still going to want to know an address off of you! And you really wouldn't want a load of crap turning up on your doorstep

It's definitly real... I believe so. The problem is the contest just began. The drawing for the contest isn't until June. And according to their rules and regulations:

On Friday 17 June 2005 two judges will select 1200 winners as the entrants with the most creative and original responses to the question asked. Judges will include one representative from MSN, one representative from MSN?s PR agency.

The drawing for the cams doesn't even happen until June 17th. So, either Microsoft have done something a little premature by accident, or somethig else is a little fishy. Either way, I'd just wait for an official statement by a Microsoft spokesperson.

And FYI (to any wanting to enter the contest - [http://www.msnmessengercompetition.com/en-gb/index.html] it's only open to UK users of MSN Messenger:):)
