+Steve B Subscriber² Posted May 22, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted May 22, 2005 Has anyone tried using the new Netscape 8 browser? I have it installed but seem to be having this weird issue. I went into settings and selected Internet Explorer as it's rendering engine. However, it seems to want to default back to firefox engine even though IE is still selected as it's rendering engine. Has anyone else experienced this?

+Steve B Subscriber² Posted May 23, 2005 Author Subscriber² Share Posted May 23, 2005 Well, Netscape 8.0 was released with Firefox's 1.0.3 browser engine. There was some serious security flaws with that version hence Firefox releasing, 1.0.4. So who knows what Netscape will do now.

Thanks for pointing it out. Since that has happened, I will reinstall Netscape. I just wish it wasn't such a big resource hog.

deadlogics
except the fancy skin, i don't see any other reason why you should use netscape
Sub_Zero_Alchemist
except the fancy skin, i don't see any other reason why you should use netscape 585985699[/snapback] And i don't see any reason on you criticizing he's choice on using netscape, it seems like a damn trend these days on bashing netscape or questioning the user choice for that matter. netscape 8 is not that bad and it's actually better than the previous versions, granted it still buggy and a big resource hog what software isn't though. now i assume the next major netscape release would be based off of Firefox 1.1, hopefully aol would get it right and make it less buggy as 8.0 was released and not rushed it out the door. like everyone else said in this thread you should use the default gecko engine by default and not the ie engine.
