OPP reports weekend lunacy on the roads

TORONTO ? Ontario police have laid charges against more than 1,000 drivers during the weekend, mostly for speeding. The OPP's road-safety blitz continues until at least 10 p.m. Monday.

The stepped-up police patrols on waterways and roadways produced some pretty unbelievable stories:

* On Saturday, police caught up with a seven-year-old girl, standing on the floor-boards to drive a milk tanker-truck on Highway 401 near Oshawa. A 26-year-old Orillia man, who was with her in the vehicle, is facing charges.

* Police report that three men cut off an OPP officer in a marked cruiser at a Burlington gas station on Saturday night, as they rushed to claim the only open gas pump. OPP Sgt. Cam Wooley says the men were smoking marijuana, and drinking, and that their car was overflowing with magic mushrooms. He says it's further evidence that drugs don't make you smart. All three were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

* Police say a 27-year-old Dundas woman tried to blame her flip-flop sandals for her speeding on Highway 404.

* A 25-year-old Mississauga man rolled his father's Jeep Grand Cherokee on Highway 401 on Sunday, as he took the exit to Erin Mills. Police say he was not only going 180 km/h, he was impaired, and he had previously had his licence suspended ? four times.

* The fastest of all, so far this weekend, was a motorcyclist, clocked at 300 km/h, southbound on Highway 400 near Canal Road.

Actually wearing inappropriate footwear while operating a vehicle is against the rules too.

I surprised my dad isn't up there lol.

I remember when my dad got his license in the mail "Thank you for being a safe driver." He had a hard time not laughing.

His usual cruising speed is 150kph
