That article is BS. We invented comedy.

How often do we hear about US networks wanting to recreate UK comedy shows? And then fail!

How often do US comediens claim "Monty Python's Flying Circus was a massive influence"?

Was just about to say that, if our comedy sucks so bad why do other countries remake our shows, like The Office and Red Dwarf

Many people think that British comedy isn't funny because they have only seen the US versions of shows like "The Office"

to be honest us brits do have a twisted sense of humour (unlike mnay other countries... ensuing disucssion) e.g. the office, monty python etc.

good to see 'look around you' listed up there somewhere too, respect to whoever tht was! tragically underrated program (the 1st series at least was unbelievably funny)

and yes, topgear = funny.

i sent my friend in oregon a dvd rip of little britain and she loves it. She's always quoting the show in this crazy pseudo english/american accent. It makes it just that little bit funnier sometimes :D

thing is, most of us brits that are still teens havnt watched some of these things that forigners think we enjoy, such as montey python etc.

we have a huge reputation for being well spoken etc, but really thats only 10% of the population.

good work guys. Way to take a study about "Britons" (not 'Britains') not being able to laugh as often due to stresses of modern life and turn it into a 'british comedy sucks' flamewar.

bravo.

The same goofs that think british comedy sucks probably love Snatch and Lock Stock. Those that think all british comedy rocks have probably never watched Ab-Fab. British comedy is just like comedy from anywhere else. Some of it is great, and some of it ain't so great.

Most British people are too glum but I usually manage to end up laughing loads a day anyway - it's just the way you look at things. As for our abstract humour... I love it.

I laugh a lot (much more than six minutes a day) yet i'm a rather miserable, depressed ****** still.  go figure.

Sounds like me.

The league of gentlemen is so FUNNY.

Also, I'm a big fan of frank skinner.

Baddiel and Skinner unplanned was copied all over the world. A comedy show with no script? genius.

Being a briton myself i dont find this surprising. Theres so much "Political Correctness" and people that get easily offended these days that our humor is just dying.

For instance i dont think family guy would be allowed on standard TV here (by standard im excluding Sky as i know its on Sky 1) because people would phone up and complain. Personally i find it hilarious and good fun to watch but unfortunetly theres alot of people who would complain, at least thats the impression i get from the news and things you read in the press here these days, its a shame really i feel quite sorry for people who cant take a joke

btw, the reason i mention family guy is because theres quite a few scenes that have been cut ont he dvd's, such as the osama bin laden part in the airport on "Road To Rhode Island"

I find the most ridiculously stupid things funny.

wow the humor expert. speaking from personal experience of living in uk for 5 years i am yet to find a single person who would be so rediculously funny like quite a few chaps i new in england. i guess younger people still have it. this guys could go on for hours.

thing is just because you dont find it funny does not mean it is not. i'd say take a random sample of 1000 people and if over 50% find if very funny then it is so.

No one's mentioned Brass Eye yet. To me, that has to be the funniest show EVER made (along with Jam/Jammmm and The Day Today.) Chris Morris IS Comedy :D

i wonder how you measure laughter, i mean i dont think anybody gets a stopwatch out to time themselves when they laugh do they  (lol)

i probably would be happier / laugh more if life wasnt so stressful / hard / expensive

i think a lot of the british comedy shows are quite funny, but i dont find hardly any US comedy stuff funny :/

maybe US people just have a different sense of humor...

I was even enjoying "Is Harry on the Boat?" while that was playing on Showcase.

Um.. A fairly good chance to see topless girls wasn't a detraction either. :ninja:

GEE. YOU THINK SO?

Or not, 'cause, uh, humour is entirely subjective? Who the hell are you, anyway, the humour inspector?
