+E.Worm Jimmy Subscriber¹ Posted June 2, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 2, 2005 (edited) GEE. YOU THINK SO?Or not, 'cause, uh, humour is entirely subjective? Who the hell are you, anyway, the humour inspector? 586005148 why yes i am, thank you. you get B+ for your sarcastic remarks  That makes no sense at all. Humor is 100% subjective. Nothing can be objectively 'funny'. Even more-so than beauty, humor is certainly in the eye of the beholder. 586005183 exactly. this is my point. just because i dont find some world known comedians even remotly funny, i would not go round saying they nhave no humor. because if they did not they would not be a world known comedians. see my point yet? jackwanders
thing is just because you dont find it funny does not mean it is not. i'd say take a random sample of 1000 people and if over 50% find if very funny then it is so. 586005024 That makes no sense at all. davemint
i think british humour has more to it like "The office" is funny cause the blokes a ****, like a hidden humour were as american humor is just blatent and in your face type. The British tend to like both, but the yanks dnt seem to like ours (from wat ive heard)
WarStorm
Ok this is turning into an arguement more than a discussion. US copy our shows so they cant be that unfunny. Besides i think we're missing the point arnt we tlkin about the british people not the actual shows. It all depends on who u survey. I mean obivously older people are gonna laugh a lot less than younger people because they watch different tv programs.

+E.Worm Jimmy Subscriber¹ Posted June 2, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 2, 2005 (edited) That's what this article writer plans to be. 586005222 lol it least someone got what i am pointing at with my comment, unlike the others who thought i am being serious. or are i? ps. lav-chan: if you agree with me on humours being subjective then quit appoligising for britan being not funny. its the fact that you said it twice, though it is only you opinion and also you trashing of all the other british shows which provoked me to reply in this thread altogether. i also just noticed how overused your sarcastic remarks are, so i revise your grade to a B-. keep using them left and right and you might even get a C. Edited June 2, 2005 by panacea

I don't have to add every single time i have an opinion, 'OH, BUT IT'S ONLY MY OPINION'. If i say that something is not funny, it's completely obvious to a reasonable person that i'm speaking only in regard to my own opinion, not trying to state some kind of scientific constant. Ramble
I tyhink that we are miserable, but still like to laugh. I know alot of people, including myself who laugh quite regularly. (sp?) British humour is some of the best. The Office, Vicar of Dibley, Monty Python, Red Dwarf, etc. are great. Austin Powers is pretty funny as well. (Is that American or English anyway??) SaLiVa
Are you the guy who argues with all of his friends whenever they say something 'sucks'? 586005301 Sorry to butt in, but now that it's been mentioned I find it amazing how characters differ online and offline. On topic - Im starting to really hate these people who think they're really smart and think they can study humour by scientific and mathematical equations/timings. We do not need these analyses, they do not define life nor do they provide for anything useful. There are just some things in this world that do not need explaining! A statistic is just numbers and provides no factual information whatsoever! On a side note: It's as if this article was made in "The Office". SaLiVa
Austin Powers is pretty funny as well. (Is that American or English anyway??) 586005347 The movie is American, but Mike Myers is Canadian. Canada's humour is some of the best in the world. Britains is very classical and traditional. American... Well sexually oriented and full of in your face moments. All of them have different qualities, and most of them requires a cultural background. vincent
That article is BS. We invented comedy. Humor has been around a bit longer than Britain was a country my friend How often do we hear about US networks wanting to recreate UK comedy shows? And then fail! Who's line is it anyway? How often do US comediens claim "Monty Python's Flying Circus was a massive influence"? 586004926 I don't discredit Monty Python from contributing to the world of Comedy i just don't personally find him funny, maybe i haven't watched enough ;)

dan
oh, so there was no comedy before the Brits gave it to the world?!?!?!?! 586005664 No there was no comedy before we gave it to the world. It was a gift we gave the world in the good old days of the British Empire. No offence but when i was in the states two weeks ago i saw nigh on every "comedy" show on TV and bar Dave Chappel its all dross. I pray for the day when canned laughter is put into room 101 as well. On a better note. American drama is light years ahead of us English.
blik
lav-chan... After reading this entire thread, I dont think It's us the british with the sense of humour loss  Little Britain, Ali G, and Bo Selecta or genius (Y)
Jon
Our humour is totally an aquired taste. I love almost all of it, apart from the more regional things. Simpsons and Family guy aside, I really think the rest of the world has missed the boat (take friends for an example.. funny how?). But that's *my opinion*.
