WigglesTheFish
I have been a faithful user of Firefox since (I think) 0.3, but recently I have noticed extremely high CPU usage when opening tabs in Firefox. It has become so annoying that I have started using Maxthon instead (great app btw). Is there something wrong with my compy or is this a known issue with Firefox? Anyone else having this problem? bangbang023 Veteran Posted May 27, 2005 Veteran Share Posted May 27, 2005 Most likely, the pages you open to have flash in them. Flash tends to get cpu happy in Fx.
Malik05
yeah the flash does slow it down...but also if u have a lot of tabs it will slow it down, each tab is like equivlent to a new IE window opening up...one time it pist me off so much that i was actually considering going back to IE! cant wait till IE7 comes out, hopefully it will be really good...it has tabs! lol

Garrett C
Edit. I'm dumb. I've been experiencing CPU spikes (almost unbareable at times) lately, too. What's the deally-o?

Opening new IE or Firefox window consumes more memory than tab
IceDogg
I have noticed Firefox doing much better with memory usage after disabling Java. I only enable it when there is something I need to work (this is not javascript). Also the nighty (working toward Firefox 1.1) are doing much better with it too. And they are working on making it better. But in the mean time try disabling Java and you'll see what I mean.
