I just bought 2 new Dell's and they both came with 56K modems. They aren't being used and when I get a chance, both will be removed.

No reason for taking it out even though you may not use it. Remember, if for some reason you lose broadband service for a few days due to outages, you always have dial up.

just dont leave it connected to the phoneline then if you get a porn dialler or something it can't rack up a huge phonebill.

Yeah all my computers have one built in the motherboard, and I have two PCI ones that are sitting around, I have only been on DSL for about 10 months so I used to use them

The only modems that I still own are a few old, I mean REALLY old modems in some ancient PC's that I have shelved, and a couple of USR Courier v.everything modems that I used back in the day. Man oh man if those modems could talk. :p

I have 4:

One in my Gateway 2000 333MHz

One in my NEC Powermate

One in my HP/Compaq laptop

One in my Dell Inspiron 1150

None are in use. My Dell Inspiron 56k modem is only used when Broadband is down - which is extremely rare.

I have a 600KBs Broadband Router - my Dell Inspiron and NEC Powermate are connected to that.
