I personally believe it is much safer then IE. But it's like anything else you run, you have to keep it updated and patched or you will not be safe. And knowing what your doing would make you a lot safer too. It gives you more control over your security settings then does IE (or makes it easier to set them). I highly recommend Firefox to anyone.
