2 odd problems

Question

Hey guys. I ask upon your wisdom once again.

Recently after formatting my comp, I've installed a bunch of software and all, u know, nothing unusual.

However, sometimes, when I open up the Neowin messageboard a different new window containing just a picture of a folder (no text) also appears. It only closes when I close the Neowin window, and it also takes up all the screen. It totally covers my taskbar and "dockbar" (this bar I have on the bottom with my links and truelaunchbar).

2nd. Sometimes, without warning, my explorer crashes. My start menu and dockbar disappear for a few seconds, then come back, but most of my programs that run in the system tray have been killed.

Anyone know what's going on and how I could fix it? Or maybe some tools that could scan my system for faults and stuff?

BTW, it's not a virus, I scanned my whole system with the latest version of Norton Antivirus.

Thats because most applications don't reconise that the system tray has been reloaded as do not replace themselves. They are still running without an icon: take a look in Task Manager.

This doesn't happen often at all. Just when it does it ****es me off. It's like a new window opens and sits in the tray. It has the same icon as the normal My Documents folder, but there's no label. (That's in the taskbar) Now, this new window covers my WHOLE screen in a grey color. It overlaps my taskbar and dockbar. It's on top of everything except the neowin window.

Ohhhh. I know what you mean. Its like the desktop has crashed and come to the front.

Nope, I have the same problem very occasionally and don't know how to fix it.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing but I think I might know what you're talking about. If I switch to the folder when it happens to me it just makes my taskbar white I believe and everything else is normal. To get rid of it I just press Alt + F4 and everything is fine. I'd try that... bring the folder in question into focus and hit Alt + F4 to end it.
