Broken TV leads to charges

A woman is accused of brandishing a loaded gun at a repairman who couldn't fix her TV.

NEW PORT RICHEY - The Best Buy repairman had come several times to fix the woman's television. But still on Friday he could not get it to work.

So, officials say, the woman pulled out a .38-caliber handgun loaded with hollow-point rounds and told him: "You're not leaving until the TV is fixed."

Marlene Anne Bagnall, 44, of 1523 Davenport Drive was later arrested on charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment.

Bagnall's husband told a sheriff's deputy she was diagnosed with a mental disorder for which she takes medication. She left the county jail early Saturday on $10,000 bail.

Bagnall told a deputy that she became enraged when the repairman, 58-year-old John Meyer, could not fix the television. She said she retrieved the gun from the glove box of her car in the garage, walked back into the living room and pulled the gun out of its case, a sheriff's report said. She denied pointing it at the man.

The repairman escaped unhurt after he got a Best Buy clerk on the phone to promise Bagnall a new television. She seemed pleased and allowed him to leave, he told a deputy. Afterward, he called the Sheriff's Office.

"John advised in his 30 years in retail he has never experienced such a thing and is glad to be okay," the deputy reported.

Wow, thats alot of bail money 10 grand? You'd figure she would just buy a new TV.. unless the TV was 100 inch flatscreen then it might have been worth it.

Another reason women (most, or atleast the psycotic ones) shouldn't be involved with electronics. Good thing she didn't point it at him, that could have turned bad... Now I'm definatelly not gonna work for best buy, lol, I never thought "home installation" or "home repair" were such a safe Idea, you never know what the'll pull on you, well unless it's some super hot chick's house, lol.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot. Brandishing, I love that word, yes it's a great word.

:woot: Wow, some people carry things to far sometimes. I mean like it's that poor repairman's fault he works for a company that don't care about customers. Still, I had a good laugh.

You act like any other store actually cares about their customers. Come on now, these companies just care about themselves, whether it be Circuit City, Wal-Mart, or Best Buy. Stop giving yourself ideas that Best Buy is evil; it really isn't. Do you actually think Wal-Mart gets lower prices on products for you? No, they do it because its more profit for them.

Runaround? It states clearly in the guarantee contract that it takes 3 repair attempts before a product will be replaced. Oh no, evil corporate America. I work for BB and don't even care for the company and yet I have to defend them against people who know nothing about everything.

anybody else notice something:

a. she's crazy enough to require medication

b. she has easy access to a handgun

c. that handgun was stored in the glovebox of her car.

can anybody say 'road rage'?

this chick was an accident waiting to happen.

I was just referring to your comment that BB doesn't give a damn about their customers. It seemed like you were trying to insinuate it is the only company who doesn't give a damn about their shoppers.

If you haven't noticed, I do work for Best Buy. I don't care much for the company since its just a part time job, but I don't understand why people pick on Best Buy for no reason. It seems like if someone says something bad about the store, then 40 other people will say the same based on that one person's experience.

P.S. Pick on Wal-Mart...they are the evil empire ;)

And there are many many companies that do care about the customer. To say "Well there are others that don't care, so we don't care either" is a lame duck and worthless excuse. I have had such **** poor dealings with Futureshop (a subsidiary of Best Buy) that i was close to doing the same thing! It took letters to the BBB and getting close to a court case for them to fix the product under warrenty as the statement said. Best buy makes anything except checkout (purchasing) extremly difficult for the customer.

Look at retailers like Staples... I have not had a single bad experience with them and they are quick to put the customer first in every instance i can think of (and i have been a frequent shopper for at least 7 years). They aren't like companies like Best Buy where you have to stand in a long line at the customer service desk for 45 minutes waiting on the one rep to process your return when there are 4 empty checkout lanes. They don't lie to you about their company's policys and how things are being carried out on your behalf. The list can go on...

To say that some other companies out there don't care for their customers is not a good excuse. I don't think a judge would symphathize with a murder who said "Well your honor, There are many murders out there. Afterall, thousands of Americans die by their hand each day, so i shouldn't be judged harshly as i'm not the only one!" The same goes for Best Buy. Their customer service and regard for the customer is poor and i shop in their chain of stores as infrequently as possible. I just use them as a price reference to get staples to give me a lower price, if needed.

I never said best buy was the only one to do this, but yes, any electronics chain will give you the runaround. Its the reason why we have consumer advocacy websites and such.
