Andy07
Its not even close to the Senna, Prost, Mansell era. The machines are part driven for the driver via electronic gismo's, safety is over the top and these dumb rules they keep bringing in, one engine, grooves in the tires etc. The qualifying is a farce, i just don't enjoy it anymore.... and would any of the drivers apart from schumacher really cut it with the likes of Senna? Miuku.
Welcome to the club. Rules like you can't change tires during the race and fuel at the same time.. Retarded, to say the least. I guess FIA won't do anything about it until no one "watches" the sport anymore.
golazo
i still love it :) go webber!! how can the safety be over the top? these guys can be injured or killed in an instant and you think it's over the top
AdzzzUK
Did you actually SEE the european GP??? Ok, what would you have done to make it better? It was getting boring with Schuey winning all the time, something had to be done to make it more interesting!!
Fozzieb
I've quite liked this season so far, was getting p'd off with it over the last few years. I think that the drivers have to be given more contro of the car and some of the fancy stuff taken away. This year has showen that MS is a good driver not a great one, I always said they should have put the ferrari boys in the jordans and vice versa and let them race each other, then we would see who's great or not. Neil
This season is better than the last few, but get rid of the tyre rule it is stupid.
Jim K Global Moderator Posted May 31, 2005 Global Moderator Share Posted May 31, 2005 it is different...that is for sure. A lot of the racing sports have changed from when I grew up...NASCAR especially. There are so many things I hate about NASCAR now...especially that stupid points system. At least F1 drivers keeps their points and hasn?t adopted NASCAR?stupid "chase for the championship" Unfortunately there will never be another Ayrton Senna.... Kerm
I do agree with OP. I'm undecided as to whether the difference between now and the Senna/Prost/Mansell days are just down to those particular drivers being incredible geniuses, or whether the safety restrictions have also played a major part in dumming down the excitement of the sport. I don't see any close dual rivalries anymore, Senna vs Mansell at Monaco '93 anyone? Senna on old worn tyres, trying to keep Mansell, on brand new tyres after fresh pitstop, behind him for 15 laps for the win? Absolutely incredible. How many times did the duals take both drivers out? Not seen anything like that since Schumy vs Hill. Im not crashes are whats missing, far from it. Its the damn excitement of the racing, the sparks flying as two drivers go side by side down the home straight at 200mph inches away from each other. Hair tingling. I rarely watch it anymore, only the odd one or two. I think they have completely ruined some of the tracks aswell, Hockenhiem used to be fantastic, but they have demolished the old track in favour of a slower, harder to pass crap-ass track. :( /end rant *Edit* I didn't even mention the qualifying tactics and Senna managing to race out and get onto his last flying lap with seconds to go and then grab pole.... aww i miss those times. Malisk
I like this F1 season more than the past one, mostly thanks to the new qualifying rules, I guess. I don't care much for the "no tyre changes" rule; it's there, live with it... I'm personally indifferent about it. and would any of the drivers apart from schumacher really cut it with the likes of Senna? I have no idea, and who cares? F1 champions don't grow on trees so it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't one yet. But as long as it's a competitive sport you don't know the outcome of, and that has its exciting moments, I find it interesting to watch. I agree about tracks hard to pass though; they're anti-competitive and therefore anti-exciting. :( They could maybe also loosen up the security restrictions a bit (I mean, are exactly all of them absolutely necessary for for survival and against severe injuries?), and instead maybe add technological restrictions? :) "Use at most a laptop with a Celeron CPU to assist"! Anyway, in perspective I still find F1 more interesting than Nascar. Edited May 31, 2005 by Jugalator

SMeK Veteran Posted May 31, 2005 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2005 the new rules add so much more to the race, if you get the right strategy and work it all out its great the cars are so fast now thats its more down to stategy and having a good race
akaladis Veteran Posted May 31, 2005 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2005 I lost my interest in F1 a long time ago, but I agree, these new rules make it barely watchable. I miss Senna (he died when I was 8) and Schumacher's first 'steps'.

Ryne
To you guys saying the no tyre change rule is dumb. Do you know that most of the F1 era had that rule? It was only recently that they allowed tyre changes.
tinyman
I rememeber when i used to watch it, when Senna was racing! He was great, i was really upset when i saw him hit that barrier, and then later on pass away. Formula 1 was never the same again for me Now i just dont like it anyway more, too many rules. But i guess it is nice to see Renault winning some races for once.
M/\TT
I've watched it for many years personally. I was loosing interest over the last 3-4 years but they seem to be improving again slowly. I don't like the double qualifying as they only show the 1st on ITV1 so it's pointless watching it. Also I don't like the new tire rule. They should be able to change whenever new tires are needed for better grip and general safety whilst racing. I'm sure they'll get there over time. I've already filled out my F1 survey and sent it off :)

The speeds have increased tremendously, they either need to have the electronic stability systems there or slow the cars back down. Personally, faster is better. BroChaos Veteran Posted May 31, 2005 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2005 when do they show this in the U.S.? i'm getting more and more into open-wheeled racing, and really like the GP stuff. neocyber_16
I love F1, i just recently this year started watching it, I use to watch Cart racing a few years ago but lost my interest in racing all together. Now I've been watching F1 this year since the start in AUS. I look forward to watching the rest of the season unfold. Sure the new rule changes sux big time, but for me, the enjoyment is watching 900HP cars go 0-60 in 2 secs w/20000 RPM under the hood. Watching big constructor names like Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Renault, etc.. compete against each other is amazing to me.
