Dfresh321
I am in the market for a tv card(cable input). I already have a decent video card, so initially I'm looking for a standalone (2nd video card) tv card. I am not leaving out the option for purchasing a new primary video card though.... Tell me what you guys think. Any bargins out there? Any superior to others?? Thanks guys.

Roger H. Veteran Posted June 17, 2002 Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2002 i got a generic one. Packaged and sold by www.magicexpress.com but it's manufactured by Askey. It uses the connexant BT849 chipset and it does a pretty good job. Up to 181 channels (of-course they don't have channels that high) but i'm saying... I watch TV using WinDVR (from InterVideo) and it is extra sharp! My card came with a remote control, none of the ATI cards have one, not that i'm knocking ATI cuz their cards are top notch the the video is PERFECT but just no remote. (does anyone know if there's a code or inf or something to add to WinDVR to make it work with the card? I hate the crappy software the card came with) I can't sit at my PC and watch TV, that's too close. i like to sit back and enjog 5.1 sounds in everything, lol even commercials (thanx to my Abit Max AT7 and Creative inspire 5300s) but I say any card based off the Connexant BT849 chipset kicks ass... there's a version that comes with an FM Radio so that's even better. trpn
here is my setup: 1. ati tv wonder ve.... costs about 69.99 in canada 2. dscaler... this is the software that i use... the ati software is ****, dscaler is the best ... anyone should use it for any card it supports 3. packard bell fast media (piece of crap) infrared remote... (attaches to serial port and can be found on ebay for about 9.99 usd) 4. girder remote software for that remote. www.girder.nl ... works with a lot of remotes i am running it in windows xp and have had it going with both nvidia and ati video cards ... windows ME, 98se and linux also worked with this card ... and hey the price is good especially for a clear picture

grimlock
I have heard great things about the TV LEADTEK WINFAST TV2000XP. They have it at newegg for less than $70. I think it has the features like the ATI but w/o some of the software issues in XP. It is probably what I will be getting if I get a tuner/capture card. EDIT - Sorry, I didn't know if you wanted a tuner/capture card or just a tv card. I think this does both.
Fonze
i have a hauppage Wintv PVR PCI and i have to say IT SUCKS SOOO BAD! Don't even touch hauppage, they are probably the worst tv tuner card company ever. stick with ati and you will be ok. Btw, i need to know a program that has a schedule for recording, and it has to be able to record tv shows without poping up on screen. my stupid hauppage card uses hardware encoding but it pops up on screen and alt-tabs me out of DAOC, which is a bad bad thing! any i need help, URGENT
