Help finding USB parts

Recommended Posts

I have 2 usb ports on the front of my case. I was thinking of buying a new mobo, and the thing I tried to keep in mind was finding one that had a connection where I could plug in the usb ports (2 usbs) my case has in the front to the mobo so I could still use them. Well I eventually found out most mobos come with, in addition to the 2 onboard usbs, with a place I can plug in the 2 existing usbs I have up front.

I thought I could just plug in the cable that was going to my current motherboard into the new one, but on a closer look I realized both mobos have the same number of possible pins, but they were arranged differently.

on the GigaByte GA-7DXR+ mobo the pins looked like this..

. ...

... . <~

2 x 5 possible basically

the way the pins look like on my current mobo vary a bit, and the cable, where my <~ is, they've blocked that in that part so I wouldn't be able to fit the cable in anyways. I'm guessing it was custom made along with the mobo. The one I have right now is a gigabyte, thats all I know.

Basically, I want to know if this sort of thing can be bought some where. If you've seen this kind of thing for sale? I was thinking maybe I could replace the front usbs I have now with a different one that comes with the right cable that would hook up to my future mobo. hehe, I dont want to lose my 2 front usb's =/

Thanks

lol, much rather buy a new part than mess around with what I've got.

Easier that way, and less chance I have of frying anything I plug into the usb later.

Ignore all the shizzle I said before, probably didn't make much sense anyways =/

Starting over... heres a pic of my case. From it you can probably see where the my front 2 usb ports are. =)

copy paste link in new window,.. otherwise it will say something about not being able to remotely link the files.

Now here is a pic of the mobo I'm going to get. Dunno the technical name for these, but in this picture you see the plug where I would hook up any extra usbs I may have. The orange are for USB 2.0 and the one black one above is USB 1.1, which I would hook up my 2 front usbs too.

My prob is the wiring scheme and pin layout on my mobo right now are different than on the new mobo I want to get which is a Gigabyte GA-7DXR+. So trying to plug in my current cable into the GA-7DXR+ usb 1.1 wouldn't work.

Do I have to manually some how rearrange the wires in the plug? :(

Or can I just purchase a new cable to match my mobo? or some kind of front usb kit?

Thanks

*Sorry about my previous posts, I probably wasn't as clear.

since I can't seem to find any free webhosting that will let me remotely link to files, heres a rough look at the pin layout on that Gigabyte GA-7DXR+.

. , . . .

. . . , .

, = an empty spot/ no pin

sort of looks like a sideways 5, 2 x 5

are plug the motherboard USB cable into the motherboard so that the two are opposite of each other. So if they have the wires going on opposite directions. Kinda tough to explain but you cant do damage.

make sure all the USBs are enables on the motherboard in the BIOS.

Check out the manual, it should tell you what pin does what.
