IE running as explorer.exe

Recommended Posts

I noticed IE is running as explorer.exe, I don't have iexplorer.exe running at all. So this means if IE crashes, my shell crashes as well. I only use IE for work, so it is important that I don't run into problems. I have it set so folder windows run in a separate process, but that doesn't seem to do what it's supposed to do. Anyone know why this is happening?

thats for folders so they run there own memory space,for seperating it

check these 2 tweaks out,they will help you

16-bit application speedup (Performance / Registry)

Location: Start > Run > regedit

Easy installation

Why do this: Windows XP opens all 16-bit applications in the same memory space thus reducing the amount of code it needs to load up for each 16-bit application thus reducing the amount of memory it used. However when one of the applications crash, they all crash. You can stop that by loading every application in it's own memory space.

How to do this: When Registry Editor opens, navigate to the location surrounded by square brackets and modify or create the data values listed below it.

[HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WOW]

"DefaultSeparateVDM"="yes" (string)

Run Taskbar as a separate process (Performance / Registry)

Location: Start > Run > regedit

Easy installation

Why do this: This tweak allows the desktop and taskbar to open up it in it's own memory space instead of in the same memory space as Windows Explorer. This way if Windows Explorer crashes your desktop and taskbar won't.

How to do this: When Registry Editor opens, navigate to the location surrounded by square brackets and modify or create the data values listed below it.

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]

"DesktopProcess"=dword:00000001 (dword)

i have uploaded the 3 reg files for you,just double click then restart for them to take effect.

Thanks, I didn't know about some of those. But none of them have anything to do with my problem. I actually found the solution, I just forgot to update this thread.

Mine was set to no. By default, that entry does not exist, I don't know what created it and set it to no.
