New Mobo?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have a Biostar motherboard with the Via KT266a chipset. At the time that I built this machine, that chipset was supposed to be the best. However, as I've been using it, I've had problems with the video cards I owned and infinite loop. Most ppl have attributed this to the Via chipset. So, basically, I was just wondering what mobo chipset you all might recommend. I don't need a mobo with all the bells and whistles. I just want something that may work a better. Thanks!

I have ASUS A7v333 with the VIA KT333 chipset and i have absolutely no problems with it. Most stable board i've owned in a long time :)

In the world of chipsets, the most stable you can find will be Intel - which means, of course, no AMD.

AMD wise, VIA is probably the best chipset maker. It's been my experience that a lot of the "instabilities" associated with VIA chipsets are often motherboard dependent. Performance is also almost always top notch. AMD made chipsets are also decent, but are usually seen on MP systems.

I wouldn't buy a SiS/Ali chipset under any condition; I've heard too many instabilities and performance issues traced back to using their chipsets.

*shrug* I have a hard time associating the infinite loop problem with a chipset (specifically the 266a). It seems to be more of a memory timing issue; quite often I've seen it occur on one system and not another (even though the hardware is exactly the same).

When you say memory timing issue, what do you mean? Cause if there's some bios setting or something that I could change to maybe stop the loop, I'd like to try it. Thanks! :)
