Fred Derf Veteran Posted June 8, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 8, 2005 Remind me of that when we aren't discussing American politics. Until then they're apples and oranges. 586033008 Some of you Republicans would even be Liberals in Canada. We have a separate party for the social conservatives while most fiscal conservatives have moved to the Liberal Party or quit politics (Joe Clark). We have another party for the socialists (New Democratic Party of Canada). In fact the Liberal party in Canada was said to take a step to the right when then chose Paul Martin as leader. He was always said to be cosy with big business and responsible for the economic shift that led up to nine straight federal surpluses after decades of deficits. I personally don't know how all the fiscal conservatives that are still left in the Republican party can stand the social conservatives. One day, that party will either implode or slowly wither. The two groups are not compatible. Personally, if I were the Democrats, I'd make a party to the right. Jettison all the extreme leftists and anti-establishment types and scoop up any and all remaining fiscal conservatives.
Clirion
isnt Alan keyes the senator who called Homosexuals a poison of this society, Who ridiculed Dick Cheneys daughter for being Gay and lost by 57!!!! points in the Illinois race, and he isnt a senator he lost so badly everyone was staying away from him. JC Watts is a name i have never heard of and ive heard plenty of names in politics.Edit: Name Party Votes Percentage Barack Obama Democratic 3,524,702 70 Alan Keyes Republican 1,371,882 27 Albert J. Franzen Independent 79,481 2 Jerry Kohn Libertarian 67,914 1 586032941 The question was, who was prominent in the Republican Party, She answered correctly. However, I could not vote for Alan Keyes becuase of his public stand, which was much different that 4 years ago when I was watching him closely. I was rather supprised when i heard what I did hear from him. Lost by a huge margin, then again he ran for effectivly 2 months in Illinois. That is a whole new ballgame and if I can later, I will find my thread that I discussed what happened to have Alan Keyes in Illinois and what my thoery was for it. JC Watts was very prominent between 3-5 years ago, while you may not have heard of him, he was on every major talking head show on Sunday Morning, Meet the Press and such. He was 4th in power in the RNC for a while there to. Powel is still in the GOP, just not Secetary of State anymore. It would not supprise me if he decides to run for office after the next Presidental cycle. Brakack Obama is "prominent" right now becuase he is the darling of the DNC. His star in the DNC has fallen some since he has not been able to put anything together yet. He is a freshman Senator, so its not like we have anything close to a track record in National Politics yet, we shall see what the future hold for him. Aaron Veteran Posted June 8, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 8, 2005 name 2 prominent black republican who arent more prominent than Barak Obama 586032874 Obama is a completely unproven and unaccomplished legislator as of yet. If he is prominent it is simply becuase he is a good speaker and a dashing young man. :D Very easily can name Rice and Powell as more prominent within their respective parties than Obama. Matt
I find it disgusting that the party that freed the slaves (republican party) has its roles completely reversed and the democratic party which promoted slavery in 1830 has more black supporting it in terms of values towards attitude and behavior towards them 586032802 a lot blacks support democrats in the past couple of generations because of their general social (welfare, medacaid/medicare, labor) ideologies. ask a random black person which political party freed the slaves and i bet you he/she wont know and possibly will not care. As a demographic they are rated as much more opposed to gay issues, abortion, and religious issues.
Septimius
He should have said pretty much a party of angry white Christian males. Theocrats and plutocrats. 586032425 Wow. Condi Rice and Colin Powell aren't going to be happy to hear that. Yet another Dean solecism.

Obama hasn't done squat, and he's from my state. He's a media darling, and that's it. 586046695 Name one single black member of U.S. Congress in the Republican Party in office right now. You cannot do it, for not a single one exists. There last "one" (singular) was J.C. Watts quite a long while ago. Over 40 members of the U.S. House & Senate are black, and they are all Democrats. Powell and Rice were never popularly elected to those positions they held or now hold. They don't have any power or responsibilities beyond carrying water for the person that appointed them. They were appointed as convenient window dressing for Republicans to point at and say, "See, we ain't all white." And Powell isn't in his appointed office anymore. Look at the Democratic states and you can see that they are heavily populated by minorities. Look at the midwestern states like North Dakota and you will see mostly whites; few minorities around. L3thal Veteran Posted June 11, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 11, 2005 Um. No, it doesn't show at all that most Whites are conservative. It shows that most conservatives (and we're using that as a synonym for 'Republicans') are White. Huge difference. 586047527 Yes, I agree; I wrote it awkwardly.
