FireFox upto 90% Faster

Recommended Posts

This tutorial will enable some features in firefox that will allow pipelining to increase speed in firefox. It opens more connections to browse tons faster. Im not sure about downloading though, I don't think this effects it, but browsing is a for sure thing. This is a very simple thing to do.

Effect Level:

DSL/Cable Modem | 90% Increase

ISDN | 60% Increase

56k / 28.8k | 25% Increase

As you can see from the above, it works best on a high broadband connection, but still none the less for dialup users.

1. Open about:Config

In the title bar of FireFox Open the page "about:config"

2. Locate the Strings

Now you need to find the following strings/options whatever you want to call them.

You can find the correct ones easily by using the filter bar at the top. Type

network.http

It should leave you will only a few results. Now find the following.

network.http.pipelining

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

network.http.proxy.pipelining

Network.http.pipelining - Double Click to Set to True

Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - Double Click and Set to 30

Network.http.proxy.pipelining - Double Click to Set to True

Right click anywhere and hit NEW>>INTEGER

Interger name: nglayout.initialpaint.delay

Value: 0

This will stop the delay that firefox takes before loading a page.

Thats it, you have successfully set up pipelining, enjoy your faster browsing!

Trying this out right now, I'm testing in Deer Park Alpha 1.

Edit: Ok, I wouldn't say it's a 90% difference, it's probably about 10-20% faster. :)

Very nice improvement on Deer Park Alpha 1. Better on servers with bandwidth. Neowin sturggles sometimes still.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this function actually make heavily-laden sites even slower? (both from the server and client)

Maybe it's just me then... I now notice that a page loads.. then kinda hangs there at the end.. "WAiting for ***.com" or something like that.... this correct?? In fact it's always done that to me.... hung right at the end of loading a page.. something just never quite loaded...

i'd like to make a correction. if you are on dial-up DO NOT do this. it has the opposite effect and in fact, makes it slower. it's only faster through broadband connections because it increases the amount of requests.

Correction.... It's getting faster.. weird.. didn't seem to take affect right away... WOW!!! Frickin BLAZING speeds...... does this help with download speed?? Or just browsing?

<edit>But NeoWin seems to be getting slower???</edit>

wow thanks

edit: if i set a lower Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests would it be better for 56k? like instead of 30 put 20
