Koding
SOURCE FORT MYERS, Florida (AP) -- A 6-year-old girl darted into traffic to save a turtle and was killed when she was hit by a car, officials said.Emily Kent was riding with her mother Sunday when they spotted the turtle trying to cross busy U.S. 41. Geraldine Kent pulled over so they could help, and Emily jumped out as her mother screamed at her to wait, friends said. The first-grader was struck by a car and died of her injuries. No charges had been filed. "I've had a lot of drivers swerve to avoid a raccoon or another animal and wreck their cars," said Sgt. Owen Keen of the Florida Highway Patrol. "I've never had anyone go to help an animal and get run over." Friends and family said Emily was an animal lover who would often try to catch turtles and snakes and never went far without her dog, Alexis. This is just tragic...:(

But just as you think humanity does nothing but dissappoint, a story about an individual like this comes along and doesn't let you down about humanity. dud
Poor judgement on the mother's part stopping to save a turtle on a busy road, but definitely not worthy of her being deprived of the child. I feel sorry for her and her family.

fkid
Why post this if it is so negative, tragic and makes everyone who reads it sad and upset? To learn a lesson? Anyone with proper common sense and parenting knows it is best not to do anything like this (and to have child locks on in the car also). Sad, but no point in making a non-intelligent and basically pointless post with a sad face or one word to show your fake emotion; it is but a waste of time and bandwidth. I bet deep inside; many of you are a little bit entertained by something like this, otherwise, you wouldn't bother reading such sad news stories (as it only makes you feel bad). By the way, you can't possibly feel for everything sad you read and everyone involved; just like those who say they cried when they heard about 9/11. If you cried about that or a news article like this "gets to you", you are emotionally unstable and possibly unsafe to befriend or engage in a relationship with. Stop this weak, socially pussified sh*t and remember that people die and people are born nearly every second. You just cannot feel bad for every death or injury event in the world; especially when it's something stupid (such as this). +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted June 8, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted June 8, 2005 The mom showed terrible judgement here. Also child-locks are a necessity in this day and age. Poor kid, and I feel for her family!
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2005 Global Moderator Share Posted June 8, 2005 its a turtle... its not a rare animal or anything. some people need to seperate stupity from logically thinking. its a turtle on a busy highway... your gonna let your child run out to save a turtle... sad to hear what happened to the kid, i would just drive around it... If everyone thought like you do, you would be right. Unfortunately, this is not true. You cannot read the hearts of people who care, and you don't realize that people can have an opinion that is not yours. If your friends knew that you would be indifferent at their deaths because they forgot to use common sense, you would not have many friends. So you might care if they died because a drunk driver hit them, but not if they didn't use common sense, right?
