mimeryme Posted June 20, 2002 Share Posted June 20, 2002 so, the cdrw is missing from your os. upon booting, check to see if the light on the drive turns on. if so, that means it has power going to it. did you make sure the ide cable installation is correct? the red striped side is should go near the first pin which is usually on the right side of the back of the drive (unless you have the drive upside down.) does the bios detect it? make sure you have the bios setup so you have the dianostic screen on boot. if you don't see the drive listed, then enter the bios and change the setting (this depends on your setup and bios) so that it is either set to auto or cdrom. it's tricky. since you mentioned nothing else save the dust cleaning, your cdrw should be fine. when checking the ide cable connection make sure that all the pins are still on the cdrw. if you knocked the cable out that might have broken off a few pins. then you'd need a new drive. :( Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
