jadkins555
I just started using Maxthon today (might give Firefox a try later depending on how much I like it) and was curious, how much more secure is it when compared to the standard Internet Explorer browser? Better yet, is it more or less secure than Firefox?
Matt
maxthon is an IE shell so its going to have the same vulnerabilities as IE. you can disable active x and it will be pretty secure. if you dont have an AV program and you browse warez/pr0n sites then i would say stick with FF (and this is someone who uses maxthon). i believe maxthon has a shell for the gecko engine now so you can get the same security as firefox and get the functionality of maxthon. jadkins555
So the main reason to use Maxthon is to just add more functionality to IE?

devyant
Come on.. Do you really need to be worried about security while browsing? Relax.. 586044461 I believe you wouldnt want anyone to log into your bank account and transfer all your cash out, or find out that your credit card bursted for things you didn't purchase, or lots of spam emails in your inbox that requires you to clear off each time you want to read mails. I kinda dont like it 586046871 seeing as opera advertises that they are the fastest browser then i would expect it to be faster than maxthon. Bawx
How many people get attacked through IE? I get 0 spyware/adware/spam/popups. I have Maxthon to thank.
benjaminzsj
How many people get attacked through IE? I get 0 spyware/adware/spam/popups. I have Maxthon to thank. 586046899 Come on, buddy. Attacks are furtive and once your PC is contaminated all remedies are too late. We fortify just in case. Nonetheless, IE is not so disappointing when it comes to protecting your computer, it just a little bit lacks flexibility, on which Maxthon does a great job. The domination still indicates IE's advantage.
devyant
And I seriously do not see it ending any soon, will it ever, with it shipping with every installment of Windows. I think there should be more awareness. :(
Bawx
No one ever gets robbed/hacked/ or anything mainly because of IE! It's ridiculous. You people are paranoid.
Arrow
* Enable javascript in any browser and security can be compromised browse without javascript and you can't even click on a smilie  The ability to easily toggle javascript on and off for different sites is extremely handy * maxthon has a pretty good balance on the age old trade off between security and living a little.... it's performance is really enhanced through using just 3 or 4 plugins - the rest are optional in my experience * I've noticed in some of the numerous browser popup tests I've tried, that FF is better at blocking than allowing ie some benign links it should be opening it can't. * The prime aim of web browsing for me is widespread web access with the minimum of glitches. Where security is concerned I'm the only one to have completely totalled my own O/S three times losing data in the process * Beware User At Play - the biggest hazzard on the net  * I don't use int ex alone but for anti ?phishing".there is the spoofstick plugin by corestreet who make a version of the same plugin for firefox - maxthon has it's own antispoof plugin. cheers:):) Edited June 21, 2005 by Arrow
MondoChee
I have been using Maxthon for a few months, previously was using NetCaptor, another IE-shell browser. Maxthon is good in the sense that it has mouse gestures and you can switch windows by using your mouse scrolling instead of clicking. you can use middle button to open pages in new windows etc. lots of smart tweaks to make your surfing experience more enjoyable and seamless. FF renders pages differently from IE, that's the reason I am not using it.
Zxian
I used to be a Maxthon user. I converted my parents to the wise ways of tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking, as well as some other nice features that Maxthon has. For a straight-up IE replacement, it's definately a good choice. I had made the switch from Avant because I found Avant to be too buggy... (crashes n crap...). I can't really say anything about Avant now, since I haven't used it in a year, but the latest release of Maxthon definately gets my thumbs up.
