goheels681
For a while, if I clicked on a link to an .mp3 file (Not illegal, www.tindeck.com, for example), it would come up in Firefox with a Quicktime progress bar. Recently, it stopped doing that, and I can't get them to play in Firefox anymore. I recently upgraded to QT7 Preview, but that hasn't made a difference? Please say someone else has had this same problem...

bangbang023 Veteran Posted June 10, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 10, 2005 are you using an official 1.0x release or are you using the nightlies? There is a possible fix that I know of that can be tried in the nightly builds.
RotAtoR
Check to make sure QT is associated with mp3 files. Open the Windows Control Panel > QuickTime > Browser Plug-in > MIME Setting... button and make sure that mp3 is ticked.

bangbang023 Veteran Posted June 10, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 10, 2005 have you tried setting it to "open with firefox" and then checking the automatically do this in the future?
goheels681
Yeah, and all that happens is that it opens a new Firefox window, with that same dialog
RotAtoR
One braindead way to do it might be to delete (or at least move) the mimeTypes.rdf file in your Firefox profile folder. Deleting it would reset all the custom file type handling back to the defaults.
goheels681
Awesome! That worked fine. Now that it's working, should I go ahead and delete that file (I cut and pasted it to the desktop)?
RotAtoR
Deleting it is fine, you just may lose some of the other custom filetype handling if you had any set up, like having Firefox automatically open certain filetypes rather than asking where to download them. If you did have any set up, you can always change the settings on the download dialog as you come across them.
