ziddey
gots p3 733eb (5.5x) w/ via apollo pro 133a (694x), 596b southbridge, (asus p3v4x), 2x256mb pc133 cas3 crap ram, gf4ti4200 128 (stock 460ddr!) default vcore of cpu is 1.70, i pulled up to 1.75 in bios for this. my obj is to score as high of a 3dm2k1 score as possible. so for these purposes, i removed dvd, cdrw, sblive, nic. now prob is i can only get about 803mhz (@146) and it only sometimes posts. 792 is stable for me. but i read online that between 146-155, it is irregular. so i upped it to 160 with upper vcore. thing wont post until i killed the l1 and l2 caches. prob with that is without cache is sucks. but the max i got it was 913mhz (5.5x166) which is max of my board. with this, the cache was all off, and windows took 20 minutes to load. figger there is no way to bench like tihs. my last bench was with 770mhz (140fsb) and it isnt that much different from 792. also worth noting is that for the ocing, i even tried a 4/3 cpu/ram, thus creating 124.5mhz for ram @ 166fsb. with this, i tried both cas2 and 3, of which both worked. still no cache is no nothing. any advice as to how i should go about this? ziddey
btw my pockets empty so pls dont tell me buy new 1.6a. thatll be my next upgrade (1-1.5yrs from now?). mean time, im going for wire to connect cell to laptop. but prob is it goes to serial db9, which my ghey laptop doesnt have. i saw a bafo usb-db9 kit for $20 at tigerdirect and some other online places. the shipping will bring it up to like $30. considering that the cell->db9 wire is only $15, this isnt very economical. anyone know of any stores in massachusetts where i can get one for <$25 (hopefully less). or anyone know of how to make one? thanks! username
well it looks like you may have reached your limit, it could be the ram or the northbridge that is chocking out at 140+mhz FSB. Thats still not a bad OC, also, to run at a 166fsb you motherboard must have a 1 in 5 divider to run the PCI bus down to 33mhz which it probably does not have. Still not a bad overclock what you got with that hardware.
ziddey
well i only have a 1/4 divider yes. but thing is i pulled out all pci. i know agp is running at 83.3mhz but its fine still for the vid card. like i said, ram is only at 124mhz because im doing a 4/3. my normal setting is 770 (140fsb) with standard vcore. but thats only 36.67mhz increase. no diff in perfomanrce
ziddey
comon is this so uninteresting? i see other with 600mhz hitting 900 (i guess 150fsb). so why is this difficult for me to even hit 900.
username
every CPU is different, as well as every northbrids, ram All can very and so it just happens some people have better luck really. Their CPU may have a newer stepping or better OCing motherboards
Chiefie
Hi there. I have Asus P3V4x mobo too. And I'm still using PIII-500 slot 1 cpu. Do you know what is the maximum CPU can this mobo/chipset support? I like to get a slocket and some PIII S370 cpu, but i'm not sure how high-speed i'm allowed to use with this mobo. Please shed some light on my configuration. Thanks! :) *I am limited with budget too, but any speed increase is greatly appreciated* *and no, I won't O/C* Cheers! bigmoose
im running an 800eb with a slocket on that same board, looking to oc it dont know how much it can handle
ziddey
http://www.powerleap.com !!! gogogo regardless of your mobos limits, all that counts is fsb and the p3v4x has 133 so thats all good. get the convertor and its a bit more spensive than a regular slockket but its loads better. you guys could technically go as high as the 1.5ghz p3 tualatin (did they go that high). if not, whatever the highest is.
