Chris123NT
This is just a guess but maybe the fan has a thermal sensor on it and when the case temp gets high the fan starts spinning faster. And trust me u haven't heard a comp thats about to take off untill u've heard mine :p:D
mcb
i have a dell, and mines been like that recently too. maybe since its summer, its just enough to get it going..?
mimeryme
bayrider, what video card have you got? my sis has a dell in her room and the noise was getting bothersome, but like your situation, it was intermittent. 'twas the vidcard. the fan on the viper2 was extremely dirty. i didn't have a can of air, so i just carefully took off the fan and washed it a bit, without getting too much water on it, basically with a damp q-tip. it'd probably be easier with compressed air though. anyway, that's what it was in that dell. check it out. bayrider
i have a GeForce 3 DDR 64meg, it has no fan (i know, i think it should?) its just that someitmes it sounds like the fan blade is kissing against a wire or touching the outside, even though it isnt, its dust free as well... oh well i guess its supposed to do that
freeza
mine gets louder when it gets hotter in my room ....but when i first start it up in the morning its quiet ;)
Chris123NT
No its really not supposed to sound like its hitting a wire or scraping the fan. If this is the CPU fan i reccomend getting another heatsink for that thing ;)
threetonesun
I have a Dell, but it's a laptop. Noisiest fan ever. My solution is to just hit the comp a bunch of times and shake it some. Usually fixes it, but I'm no technical expert... I have heard many complaints about Dells and their fans though, and Dells running hotter than other comps (especialy the laptops...that thing is like 130 degrees on the bottom after its been running for a while).
