ckozlowski
I hear Opera is pretty good these days...
JK1150
you should back them up whenever you add important ones if this is a problem. I don't know anyone who had this happen, you sure you didn't create a new profile?
kerby
I randomly lost all my bookmarks and settings and extensions one day. I didn't do anything, I left the computer for a class, I came back, and it was all gone. It's like firefox uninstalled itself, then reinstalled itself fresh. I was pretty angry... Slimy
i suggest you report it to mozilla, if you're still ****ed off, try another browser, there are a ton these days
Wildcard
Maybe it is using a new profile somehow ? Check the profile folder, do you have two ?

icecaveman
I've lost my favorites and profiles MANY times with Firefox, still I can't seem to quit it just out of old habbit I guess, trying to convert to Opera

Objexxx
The same thing happened to me about a month ago! I opened FireFox one day and it says "please select/create new profile" or something like that. Lost all of my favorites and settings. No idea why it happened. jus1haz2
 um, just curious, why do you need over a thousand bookmarks? 586081581 I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they limit you to a certain number of bookmarks or maybe it crashes because of a glitch becuase there are so many bookmarks
PureEdit
I know people who had this problem with IE, so I gave them firefox to use instead. For them it was caused by spyware.

em_te
I haven't tried out this extension but you seem like a prime candidate to try it out. GoodOldFavorites. It allows you to use your IE favorites from within Firefox. And IE Favorites seem less likely to get lost since each bookmark is stored as an individual file. pax13
you're getting me scared! I'm gonna go backup right now!!! I ramdomly switch between ffox & opera! i love opera's instant page back feature, ff is fast but opera is instantaneous tough! Also still the only one with svg support ( not counting ff nightlies ). the bad about using opera is once u get accostumed to gestures u keep doing it in everyother browser! especially back, new & close gestures quite funny tough! shihchiun
Can't you just backup your bookmarks.html file?
AnimeUSA
i am sad :( 586081602 Was this with Firefox 1.0? Or a nightly build? I've been running nightly builds with no problem but I make sure and export my bookmarks to an html file every few days.
[bear]
If you uninstall firefox but your EXE is still being used by a dock program or another program etc. it will try to remove the file on a restart regardless whether or not you installed a newer build after the uninstall. I have experienced this many times. However, if you had 1000 bookmarks you probably should have kept a bookmark. Your fault, your loss.
WorfsPonytail
fire fox 1.4 i just took a look and my last book mark backup was 3 months ago its really sad that mozilla would release a browser with a problem this serious that seems to affect alot of people
Shadowbladex
The reason it happens is because firefox doesn't always close correctly and the process (and thus your default profile) is still loaded even though you can't see it Then you inadvertantly create a new profile when you start firefox again The fix is pretty straightfoward with these directions First close firefox and then check the task manager to make sure it isn't running, click the processes tab and close the firefox.exe process if it's running right click the firefox shortcut and change the target from "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager .... quotes and all just like i have it, hit ok then click the icon and pick the default profile, hit ok this fixes the problem 95% of the time
[bear]
fire fox 1.4i just took a look and my last book mark backup was 3 months ago its really sad that mozilla would release a browser with a problem this serious that seems to affect alot of people 586081620 it doesn't really affect a mass number of people. Everytime that firefox has uninstalled on me (three or four times now) my bookmarks have remained intact because the profile wasn't touched. As explained above you can just start up into the profile manager. Nothing lost, nothing gained.
WorfsPonytail
i went into my user data... there is only one profile, and that is the default. i looked at the bookmarks.html and they are missing...

Instead of blaming mozilla, how about not being lazy and only doing a backup once in three months. If it is "important" information, I would think you would have more than a single copy. But I guess your backdoor links to porn sites arent really that important to you.
