I lost my Firefox bookmarks....

Please [bear] read over this entire thread and tell us this problem DOES NOT EXIST with a straight face.

Eh he was quoting someone who mentioned Opera and you then say no one did?

look here   http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=firef...G=Google+Search

Its random and unconfirmed. I'm not saying their isn't a problem.. Sure their might be a bug.. but its unconfirmed and you people shouldn't start following each other off a cliff saying "OMG WTF **** FIREFOX!!!1one" blah blah. Let the bug be confirmed first. All of these bugs are random. Lets have some facts first before we claim that we are falling off the interweb.

[bear] let me put this clear for you, YOU AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU are what's wrong with Open Source development. Sure it's not because of Firefox the bookmarks disappear for so many users on multiple platforms, it's not limited to win32 build you know! They just magically disappear right?

Alright kid, lets open your ears for a second. I didn't say their wasn't a problem. I said we need to wait before its confirmed on bugzilla. It probably is already, who knows. I haven't really done a search yet. You can fix this "problem" 99% of the time by running the profile manager. Oh and BTW.. backing up bookmarks is a good habit?

Bugzilla has two listings for bookmarks disapeering. One has been confirmed to be user error and can't be reproduced. Another has been confirmed to be caused by power outages and fatal crashes. Hmm seems to affect all other programs on the computer?

Therefore this bug we are talking about (if even that much) is unconfirmed. If you want to file a bug about the situation head on over to bugzilla and enter the steps to reproduce the problem. Until then this bug is random and unconfirmed.

Have a nice day :)

Also if anyone is interested in the situation (instead of just being interested in bashing open source developers) they may view this moz-zine link.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=261801

It has some interesting background information on this "issue" at hand. It is the cause of a system crash most of the time. Just follow some steps to prevent it.. and keep backups weekly using the extension provided by xdjoynerx above.

Have a nice day! :)

edit:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=193749

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=260553

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=289615

Here, for more research purposes you may view those bugs. The deletion of bookmarks is mainly the users computer failing due to a power outage or system failure. The corruption is not limited to firefox or just mozilla products obviously. Not much developers can do about this! Take care of your PCs folks. Defragment and Scandisk I think!! lol

  • 1 month later...

Arrrggggghhhhh! I've been using Firefox for four months and today my bookmarks vanished and I have been unable to restore them! My homepage was reset to the default firefox homepage also.

I loved the tabs and the font-sizing with CTRL-+ that worked on all pages. :(

I can't complain since the program cost me $0, but I'm going back to IE since it is also free. Messing with my bookmarks was just too much.

If using XP or 2000: Start > Run... and write %AppData% (which leads to C:\Documents and Settings\[user Name]\Application Data) There they are all... Doesn't anyone read firefox help?
