Imageshack Blocks Opera

Recommended Posts

It really beats me why the whole world seems to be against Opera.

Being a loyal Opera users it really hurts me to see this kind of vindictive attitude towards Opera. All of us must have come across several websites that doesnt display properly in Opera. Most of us jump to the conclusion that it is Opera’s fault. But the true picture is much darker.

It is a fact that two major causes why websites dont display properly in Opera are that

1.They do not stick to the web standards

2.The purposely send bad code to opera.

Opera employee Havardhad written about that a few months ago.Popular sites like Hotmail and MSNBC have been purposely sending bad code to Opera.

To counter this Opera has been forced to come up with steps like adding Browser Javascript and ua.ini

The latest addition to the list of Opera hating sites is the popular image-hosting site Imageshack. If you try to open an image hosted in imageshack the image wont get displayed in Opera. You can view a sample page here

However if you identify as IE or if you add img160.echo.cx=5 to the ua.ini file.

You can discuss this matter in myOpera forums also.

I have got only one word to describe this “Truely Disgusting”

I tested it on Opera v8.01

But make sure that you are identifying Opera as Opera and not as Ie or Mozilla.

I asked a few of my friends also. They confirmed that imageshack pages are not loading properly on Opera.

Strange. The picture linked in the first post of this thread still works fine for me.

I think you people should hit F12 and identify as IE. No need for ua.ini.

EDIT: tried identifying as Opera using F12, not ua.ini. Indeed, it doesn't work

I beg to differ, this will give many webmasters incorrect browser statistics making them less interested in writing proper code that renders well in both Opera, Firefox, Konqueror etc as opposed to that IE targeted crap html that so many sites are written in.

An example is a webmaster (web-blaster would be more correct) that posted here blaming Firefox for rendering errors caused by his poor coding.

Yeah, you do have a point. Is this the reason why website statistics always state Opera as some low percent (like 1%)? I think it's closer to being 4-5% if everyone changed their user agents to 'Opera'.

Oh and that site the webmaster was complaining about not rendering properly in Firefox (it didn't render well in Opera either).... yuck :x
